Time 30m

Yield 2

Number Of Ingredients 11

12 ounces large shrimp, peeled and deveined
1 pinch cayenne pepper
¼ teaspoon smoked paprika
3 cloves garlic, crushed, or more to taste
2 thick slices French bread
6 tablespoons clarified butter, melted, divided
2 teaspoons fresh lemon zest
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
½ cup heavy cream
2 tablespoons minced fresh Italian parsley
1 pinch salt, or to taste

Steps:

  • Butterfly shrimp and place in a mixing bowl. Add cayenne, paprika, and garlic and stir until shrimp are evenly coated. Refrigerate until needed.
  • Trim most of the crusts off of the bread.
  • Add 4 tablespoons melted butter to a skillet over medium heat. Add both slices of bread and toast until golden brown, 3 to 4 minutes per side. Remove bread to a plate and wipe out any crumbs.
  • Add remaining melted butter to the skillet and increase heat to high. When the pan is very hot and you see the first wisp of smoke, add shrimp and use tongs to spread into an even layer. Sear, without stirring or tossing, for 1 minute.
  • Sprinkle with lemon zest and add lemon juice and cream. Stir with a spoon to scrape any browned bits off the bottom. Let cream boil and reduce for 1 ½ to 2 minutes as the shrimp finishes cooking and the sauce thickens up.
  • Turn off the heat and stir in parsley. Taste and add salt if needed.
  • Divide shrimp and sauce evenly over each piece of toasted bread.

Garlic, shrimp, bread, and other natural ingredients offer flavors that complement one another and are sure to please even the pickiest eaters. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced cook, the following tips will help you create the best garlic shrimp bread appetizer.

Tip #1: Choose high-quality ingredients

The key to making any recipe taste great is using high-quality ingredients. When shopping for garlic shrimp bread appetizers, make sure to find fresh shrimp, high-quality bread, fresh garlic, and other high-quality ingredients. Always read labels and look for the best quality products to ensure that your dish tastes great.

Tip #2: Use fresh garlic

Garlic is an essential ingredient in garlic shrimp bread recipes. Fresh garlic is always best, so make sure to use fresh garlic cloves instead of garlic powder or garlic salt. Fresh garlic not only adds flavor to the dish, but it also has many health benefits. Garlic has been known to lower blood pressure, reduce the risk of heart disease, and boost the immune system.

Tip #3: Don't overcook the shrimp

Shrimp is one of the main ingredients in garlic shrimp bread recipes. However, it's essential not to overcook the shrimp because doing so can make it tough and chewy. Shrimp cooks incredibly quickly, so it's important to keep an eye on it while cooking. Once the shrimp turns pink, it's done. Cooking it for too long can cause it to become rubbery and hard to chew.

Tip #4: Add fresh herbs and spices

Fresh herbs and spices add a ton of flavor to garlic shrimp bread recipes. Some great herbs and spices to add to the dish include parsley, oregano, basil, and thyme. Dried herbs can also be used, but fresh herbs give the dish a more vibrant flavor. Don't be afraid to experiment with different spices and herbs to find the perfect flavor combination for your garlic shrimp bread appetizer.

Tip #5: Use fresh bread

The bread used in garlic shrimp bread appetizers is a crucial ingredient. To ensure that your bread has the best flavor and texture, use fresh bread. Sourdough bread is a great option because it has a tangy flavor that complements the garlic and shrimp perfectly.

Tip #6: Toast the bread before adding the shrimp

Toasting the bread before adding the shrimp helps to give it a crunchy texture and adds extra flavor to the dish. To toast the bread, place it in the oven or under the broiler for a few minutes until it's golden brown. Once it's toasted, you can add the garlic and shrimp on top.

Tip #7: Serve the dish hot

Garlic shrimp bread appetizers taste best when served hot straight from the oven. Be sure to serve the dish immediately after it's finished cooking to ensure that it's hot and fresh. The longer the dish sits, the bread will become soggy, and the shrimp may become rubbery.

Tip #8: Add cheese for extra flavor

Adding cheese to garlic shrimp bread appetizers adds a lot of flavor and richness to the dish. Parmesan, feta, and mozzarella are great options to use in this dish. Adding cheese also helps to keep the dish moist and gives it a creamy texture.

Conclusion

Making garlic shrimp bread appetizers is an excellent way to enjoy a flavorful and healthy meal with your family or impress your guests. Using fresh ingredients, fresh herbs, and spices, and high-quality bread is essential to achieving the perfect flavor and texture. Remember to cook the shrimp correctly, add cheese for extra flavor, and serve the dish hot to ensure that it's delicious and enjoyable. With these tips, you'll be able to make the perfect garlic shrimp bread appetizer every time.
