FIRESIDE CHEESE SPREAD

Fireside Cheese Spread image

When our family and friends get together for holidays or other occasions, I serve this appetizer. It's always a success. If you prefer, try a Swiss cheese spread instead of the cheddar. And, if you enjoy garlic, substitute a small clove of minced garlic for the garlic powder. -Debbie Terenzini-Wilkerson, Lusby, Maryland

- Look for cheese that is labeled as "melting cheese." - Avoid hard cheeses, such as Parmesan or asiago. - Choose cheese with rich flavor and creamy texture, such as cheddar or brie.

Tip 2: Add Some Flavor

While the cheese is the star of the show, adding additional flavor to your cheese spread can take it to the next level. Adding fresh herbs or spices can provide a burst of flavor and make your spread more interesting. Grace's recipe calls for garlic, but you can experiment with different flavors, such as rosemary, thyme, or paprika.

Some common options include crackers, bread, or vegetables. When choosing the right vehicle, it's important to consider the overall theme of your party. If you're going for a more formal gathering, you might choose to serve the cheese spread with fancy crackers or artisan bread. Alternatively, if you're aiming for a more casual vibe, serving your cheese spread with carrots, celery, or other raw vegetables might be a better choice.
How to choose the right vehicle:
- Consider the theme of your party. - Choose a vehicle that complements the flavor of your cheese spread. - Serve a variety of options, such as crackers, bread, and vegetables.

Tip 4: Presentation is Key

Presentation is key when it comes to serving a cheese spread. Not only does it make your dish more attractive, but it can also make it more appetizing. You don't need to be a professional artist to create a beautiful presentation. A few simple touches, such as arranging your cheese spread on a wooden board or garnishing with fresh herbs, can make a big difference. When it comes to presentation, you can also consider the color scheme of your party. If you're hosting a Christmas party, for example, you might choose to serve your cheese spread on a red and green platter to match the colors of the holiday.
How to create a beautiful presentation:
- Use a wooden board or platter for serving. - Garnish with fresh herbs or spices. - Consider the color scheme of your party.

Tip 5: Keep it Simple

While it's tempting to go all out when making a cheese spread, it's important to keep things simple.
