Angel Hair Pasta with Garlic and Parmesan image

Tender angel hair pasta noodles tossed in a delicious coating of sauteed garlic, Parmesan, butter, and olive oil. The perfect side-dish or simple pasta dinner for when you want something yummy but only have ten minutes.

Provided by Maria

Categories     Side Dish

Time 15m

Yield 6-8

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 16 oz package of angel hair pasta
8-10 large segments of garlic, finely chopped (I usually use a whole clove)
4 tbsp butter
4 tbsp olive oil
2 tbsp dried parsley
½ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp pepper
1 large lemon wedge (optional)

Steps:

  • Boil pasta according to package directions for al dente pasta. Make sure to salt the water.
  • While waiting for water to boil and pasta to cook, add olive oil and butter to a large sauté pan. (You want the pan to be large enough that you will be able to add the pasta once it finishes cooking.)
  • Once butter has melted, add garlic, dried parsley, salt, and pepper. Sauté, stirring constantly, until it starts to turn golden brown. Do not overcook the garlic. Once it starts to turn a light brown or golden, remove from heat.
  • Once pasta is done, drain and quickly add it to the garlic, olive oil, butter mixture. Toss until evenly coated.
  • Add grated Parmesan and squeeze of lemon, if desired. Toss again. At this point, taste it and decide if you need to add more salt. You can also drizzle with a little more olive oil if desired.
  • Salt to taste if needed and serve immediately. I like to reserve a spoonful of the sautéed garlic to put in the center of the serving dish with a little more Parmesan cheese...as pictured.
  • Enjoy!

However, to ensure that your pasta turns out perfectly every time, there are several valuable tips that you should keep in mind. In this article, we will be discussing some of the most important tips for making angel hair pasta with garlic herbs and parmesan.

Tip #1: Choose the Right Pasta

The first and most important tip for making angel hair pasta with garlic herbs and parmesan is to choose the right pasta. Angel hair pasta is a thin, delicate pasta that cooks quickly and easily. When buying angel hair pasta, look for a high-quality brand that is made from durum wheat. This type of pasta has a firm texture and holds up well when cooked. Also, ensure that the pasta is fresh as old or stale pasta will not give the desired result.

Tip #2: Cook the Pasta Properly

Another important tip when making angel hair pasta with garlic herbs and parmesan is cooking the pasta properly. Angel hair pasta requires attention while cooking because it cooks fast and can quickly become overcooked, resulting in a mushy texture. To cook the pasta perfectly, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil, add the pasta, and cook for 2-3 minutes or according to the package instructions. Once cooked, drain the pasta and rinse it gently with cold water to prevent it from sticking.
Tip #2.1: Drain the Pasta Quickly
It is essential to drain the pasta quickly after cooking to prevent the pasta from becoming soft and mushy. Therefore, avoid leaving the pasta in the hot water for too long, which can cause overcooking, resulting in a mushy and unappetizing texture.

Tip #3: Prepare the Garlic and Herbs Properly

In making angel hair pasta with garlic herbs and parmesan, garlic and herbs play essential roles in enhancing the flavor of the dish. To prepare the garlic, mince or chop it finely to release the flavor fully. Also, ensure that you use fresh herbs such as parsley, basil, thyme, or rosemary, as dried herbs can result in a bland taste. Gently wash the herbs, dry them with a clean paper towel, and chop them finely.
Tip #3.1: Saute the Garlic and Herbs Correctly
When sautéing the garlic and herbs, heat the skillet or pan over medium heat and add a generous amount of olive oil. A cold pan can cause the garlic to burn easily, so it is important to heat the pan before adding the garlic. Once the pan is hot, add the garlic and herbs and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic, as it can result in a bitter taste.

Tip #4: Choose the Right Cheese

Choosing the right type of cheese is essential when making angel hair pasta with garlic herbs and parmesan. Parmesan cheese is the classic choice for this recipe, as it adds a nutty and savory taste to the dish. Choose high-quality parmesan cheese that is aged for a minimum of 24 months for the best flavor. Grate the cheese finely and reserve some for topping the pasta later.
Tip #4.1: Add Cheese Gradually
When adding cheese to the dish, it is important to do it gradually to prevent the cheese from clumping or sticking together. Add the cheese slowly, stirring continuously until it fully melts into the sauce.

Tip #5: Balance the Flavors

One of the key factors in making a dish that is truly delicious is balancing the flavors perfectly. To balance the flavors in the angel hair pasta with garlic herbs and parmesan, make sure to taste the sauce as you cook it. Adjust the seasoning as needed, adding more salt, pepper, or cheese to suit your taste. It is also important to balance the acidity of the tomato sauce with a small amount of sugar or honey, which will help to bring out the natural sweetness of the tomatoes.
Tip #5.1: Use Salt Sparingly
It is essential to pay attention to the amount of salt used in the dish. Angel hair pasta with garlic herbs and parmesan is a delicate dish, and too much salt can overpower the other flavors, making it taste unpleasant. Therefore, use salt sparingly and add more as needed to suit your taste.

Conclusion

Angel hair pasta with garlic herbs and parmesan is a simple and delicious dish that requires a few key steps to ensure that it turns out perfectly every time. By choosing the right pasta and cheese, cooking the pasta correctly, and balancing the flavors, you can make a dish that is sure to impress your guests. Follow the valuable tips outlined in this article, and you will be well on your way to making a delicious plate of angel hair pasta with garlic herbs and parmesan.
