Ingredients
The key to making a delicious angel hair pasta with asparagus recipe is to use fresh and high-quality ingredients. Here is a list of ingredients that you will need:- 8 oz. angel hair pasta
- 1 lb. asparagus, trimmed and cut into 2-inch pieces
- 4 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 pint of cherry tomatoes, halved
- ¼ cup of olive oil
- 1 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
Tips for Choosing the Ingredients
When selecting the ingredients to make angel hair pasta with asparagus, it is important to look for quality products. Here are some tips to help you choose the best ingredients:- Choose fresh asparagus: The asparagus should be firm, bright green, and have tightly closed tips. Avoid any stalks that are soft, limp, or discolored.
- Pick ripe cherry tomatoes: Look for cherry tomatoes that are plump, shiny, and have a bright red color. Avoid any that are wrinkled, soft, or have a dull color.
- Use high-quality Parmesan cheese: Grate your cheese from a block of Parmesan cheese that is aged for at least 18 months. This type of cheese has a strong flavor and aroma, which works well in this dish.
Cooking Directions
Now that you have gathered all the ingredients, it is time to start cooking. Here are the steps you need to follow to make angel hair pasta with asparagus:- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
- Add the asparagus to the boiling water and cook for 2-3 minutes, until tender-crisp. Remove the asparagus from the water with a slotted spoon and set aside.
- Cook the angel hair pasta in the same pot of boiling water for 2-3 minutes until al dente. Reserve ½ cup of the pasta water before draining the pasta.
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes, until fragrant.
- Add the cherry tomatoes and cook for 2-3 minutes, until the tomatoes start to soften and release their juices.
- Add the asparagus to the skillet and stir to combine with the tomato sauce.
- Add the cooked angel hair pasta to the skillet and toss to coat with the sauce. If the sauce is too dry, add some of the reserved pasta water to moisten it.
- Add the grated Parmesan cheese and toss to combine. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the sauce is creamy.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste and serve immediately.
Tips for Cooking
To make sure that your angel hair pasta with asparagus recipe is a success, here are some tips to keep in mind while cooking:- Boil the pasta in salted water: Adding salt to the water will season the pasta and enhance its flavor.
- Cook the asparagus until it is tender-crisp: Overcooking the asparagus will make it mushy and less flavorful.
- Use a large skillet to toss the pasta and vegetables: This will make it easier to coat the pasta with the sauce and prevent it from sticking together.
- Reserve some pasta water: Using the pasta water to moisten the sauce will help it adhere to the pasta better and make it more flavorful.
Variations
There are several variations that you can make to the classic angel hair pasta with asparagus recipe to add more flavor and complexity. Here are some ideas:- Add protein: You can add sliced chicken, shrimp, or scallops to the recipe to make it more filling and complete.
- Use different vegetables: Instead of asparagus, you can use broccoli, zucchini, or mushrooms to add more texture and flavor to the dish.
- Add herbs: Adding fresh basil, parsley, or oregano to the recipe will add freshness and depth to the flavor.
- Make it spicy: Add red pepper flakes or cayenne pepper to the recipe to give it a kick.
- Use a different type of pasta: You can use spaghetti, linguine, or fettuccine instead of angel hair pasta to add more substance and texture to the dish.
