Steps:
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
- Warm the olive oil in a small saucepan over medium-low heat, add the garlic, and cook for just 1 minute but don't allow the garlic to turn brown. Off the heat, add the white wine, lemon zest, lemon juice, oregano, thyme, and 1 teaspoon salt and pour into a 9 by 12-inch baking dish.
- Pat the chicken breasts dry and place them skin side up over the sauce. Brush the chicken breasts with olive oil and sprinkle them liberally with salt and pepper. Cut the lemon in 8 wedges and tuck it among the pieces of chicken.
- Bake for 30 to 40 minutes, depending on the size of the chicken breasts, until the chicken is done and the skin is lightly browned. If the chicken isn't browned enough, put it under the broiler for 2 minutes. Cover the pan tightly with aluminum foil and allow to rest for 10 minutes. Sprinkle with salt and serve hot with the pan juices.

Amaretto lemon chicken is a classic Italian dish made with chicken cooked in a creamy sauce, flavored with the sweet and nutty taste of amaretto liqueur and tangy lemon juice. The dish is both easy and delicious, perfect for weeknight dinners, special occasions, or romantic date nights.
Ingredients
The dish requires only a few basic ingredients, including:
- Chicken breasts
- All-purpose flour
- Butter
- Garlic
- Amaretto liqueur
- Chicken broth
- Lemon juice
- Heavy cream
- Salt and pepper
Instructions
The dish requires minimal prep work and can be ready in about 30 minutes. Here are the steps for making amaretto lemon chicken:
1. Prep the chicken
Trim the chicken breasts of any excess fat and pat them dry. Season them with salt and pepper. Dredge them in flour and shake off any excess.
2. Cook the chicken
Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken breasts and cook them until they are golden brown on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove them from the skillet and set them aside.
3. Make the sauce
Add garlic to the skillet and cook it for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Add the amaretto liqueur and chicken broth to the skillet, and stir to deglaze the pan. Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it cook for 5-7 minutes, until it has reduced by about half.
4. Add lemon and cream
Squeeze the juice of one lemon into the skillet and stir. Reduce the heat to low and add heavy cream to the skillet, stirring constantly until the sauce is smooth and creamy.
5. Add the chicken back in
Add the chicken breasts back to the skillet, spooning the sauce over them. Simmer for another 5-7 minutes, until the chicken is cooked through and the sauce has thickened. Serve hot.
Variations and Tips
There are many variations of amaretto lemon chicken, depending on personal taste and preferences. Here are a few tips and suggestions for making the dish your own:
Vary the amount of sauce
If you prefer a thinner sauce, simply add more chicken broth or heavy cream. If you like a thicker sauce, let it simmer on low heat for a few extra minutes until it reaches the desired consistency.
Adjust the sweetness
Depending on the brand of amaretto liqueur used, the dish may be sweeter or more bitter. Add a teaspoon of sugar if you prefer a sweeter taste, or a squeeze of extra lemon juice if it is too sweet for your liking.
Add some extra herbs
For a flavorful twist, add chopped fresh herbs such as thyme, basil, or parsley to the sauce or sprinkle them over the chicken breasts before serving.
Experiment with different sides
The dish pairs well with a variety of sides, from creamy mashed potatoes to steamed vegetables, pasta or rice. Try different combinations to find your favorite.
Conclusion
Amaretto lemon chicken is a simple yet elegant dish that is sure to impress any dinner guest. It combines the sweet and nutty flavor of amaretto with the tartness of lemon juice in a creamy sauce that perfectly complements the tender and juicy chicken breasts. Whether enjoyed for a romantic date night, a family dinner, or special occasion, this recipe is sure to become a favorite in your household.
