I love this recipe because it is so easy and it calls for hardly any ingredients, and I always have these ingredients in my pantry. This recipe came from a good friend's mother, who was always asked to bake the ham for get-togethers and family dinners. Now I get those requests. People who ordinarily aren't too fond of ham rave over this one. After I carve, I spoon a little of the glaze over the meat in the platter - yummmm!

Steps:
- If possible, have your butcher remove the shank from your ham and package the Shank Meat separately. Most will do this at no extra charge. You can use the shank meat as a base for other recipes.
- If you can find the Brown Sugar flavor of Karo Corn Syrup, use it rather than regular corn syrup. Grocers sometimes only carry this flavor during the Holiday Season.
- Make sure your Ham is completely thawed before cooking.
- Remove the wrapper from your ham, and rinse your ham under cold water.
- To make your glaze pour your can of fruit cocktail into your blender. Puree it into liquid, then pour it into a large bowl. Add your brown sugar and Coca Cola. Hand stir gently for a few minutes until the glaze is consistent.
- Protect your baking pan by spraying it with cooking spray then covering the bottom with heavy duty tinfoil.
- Place your rack in the pan, then place your ham on the rack.
- If you have a food injector, load your syringe about 5 times and inject your glaze into the fatty pockets of your ham. This will ensure the inside of your ham is as tasty as the outside.
- Drizzle about half your glaze over your ham, then cover the ham loosely with a tent of aluminum foil.
- Bake your ham for 18 min per pound at 350 degrees. One hour before cooking is done, pour the remainder of your basting mix over your ham, re-cover it with the tent and allow it to finish cooking.
- When your ham is done, remove from the oven, wrap tight in your tinfoil, and let it stand for 20 to 30 minutes.
- Your guests will be amazed at the flavor. Try to be modest when you are complimented about your culinary excellence.

Ham is a classic dish that is commonly served during big family gatherings or holidays, such as Easter or Christmas. It is a versatile meat that can be served hot or cold, and is quite easy to prepare. One of the best ways to enjoy ham is by baking it, which allows the meat to become juicy and succulent. In this article, we will be discussing the importance of juicy baked ham recipes and how to achieve this effect.
Why Juicy Baked Ham is Important
No one wants to eat dry, tasteless ham, especially when it took hours to prepare. Juicy ham is essential because it retains its flavor and moisture, making each bite a delightful experience. Achieving juicy baked ham requires selecting the right cut of meat, using the correct cooking technique, and incorporating flavorful ingredients.
Choosing the Right Ham
When it comes to choosing the right ham, there are several factors to consider. First, select a quality cut that is not too lean, as the fat will keep the meat moisturized during cooking. Secondly, bone-in hams tend to be juicier than boneless ones, as the bone helps distribute heat evenly throughout the meat. Finally, consider selecting a fresh or uncured ham, as these have not been injected with nitrates, which can cause dehydration during cooking.
Cooking Techniques
Baked ham can be cooked using several techniques, including roasting, slow cooking, or baking. However, it is essential to avoid overcooking the ham, as this can cause it to dry out. It is recommended to cook for around 18-20 minutes per pound at a temperature of 325°F (160°C). Also, tenting the ham with foil while baking can help retain moisture.
Flavors and Seasonings
Adding flavorful ingredients can help enhance the taste and moisture of the ham. One of the easiest ways to do this is by creating a simple glaze using a combination of brown sugar, honey, or maple syrup. Other ingredients such as pineapple juice or mustard can also be used to create a unique flavor profile. Additionally, using aromatic herbs such as rosemary or thyme can help infuse the ham with a delicate flavor.
Conclusion
When it comes to preparing juicy baked ham, the key is to choose the right cut of meat, use the correct cooking technique, and flavor the ham with ingredients that enhance its natural flavor. With these tips, you can be confident that your baked ham will be a crowd-pleaser at any family gathering or holiday event.
Baked ham is a classic holiday dish that is enjoyed by many. It is a quintessential part of many festive holiday meals and has been a favorite for many families for years. The juicy and succulent taste of a perfectly baked ham cannot be replicated by any other dish, making it a great choice for many gatherings. However, making baked ham that is always juicy and tender can be a tricky task. In this article, we will discuss some valuable tips that will help you make always juicy baked ham recipes.
Choosing the Ham
One of the most important aspects of making a juicy baked ham is choosing the right ham. There are different types of ham available in the market, and it can be overwhelming to choose one that is perfect for your recipe. When selecting a ham, you should consider the quality, flavor, and type.
Quality- The quality of the ham is crucial in determining its taste and texture. You should always opt for a high-quality ham that has been sourced from reputable producers. This will ensure that the ham is fresh and has not been injected with artificial preservatives, which can alter the taste and texture of the meat.
Flavor- The flavor of the ham can also impact the overall taste of your recipe. Some hams come pre-seasoned or smoked, while others are plain. The type of seasoning or smoking can dramatically alter the flavor of the ham. For instance, smoked hams have a distinctive smoky flavor that is intense but not overpowering. However, it can be challenging to pair with all kinds of side dishes.
Type- Another important factor to consider is the type of ham. There are two main types of ham- boneless and bone-in. Boneless hams are easier to carve, but they can be less flavorful than bone-in hams. On the other hand, bone-in hams have more flavor and are juicier than boneless hams. However, carving a bone-in ham can be challenging.
Preparing the Ham
Once you have chosen the right ham, the next step is to prepare it for baking. Preparing the ham correctly can significantly impact the juiciness and flavor of the final dish. Some tips for preparing the ham include choosing the right method, removing the skin, scoring, and seasoning.
Choosing the Method- There are different methods of cooking a ham. The two most common methods are baking and boiling. Boiling is a faster method but can result in a dry and tough ham. Baking, on the other hand, is a slower method that allows the ham to retain its moisture and flavor.
Removing the Skin- Another important step in preparing the ham is to remove the skin. The skin can prevent the seasoning and flavor from penetrating the meat. Removing the skin before seasoning the ham can ensure that the meat absorbs the flavors and stays juicy.
Scoring- Scoring is a technique that involves cutting shallow slices or diamond shapes into the surface of the ham. This technique helps the seasoning and glaze penetrate the meat, adding to the overall flavor.
Seasoning- Seasoning the ham is important to enhance its flavor. You can use a variety of seasonings such as salt, black pepper, garlic, honey, and herbs like rosemary, thyme, or basil.
Baking the Ham
Baking the ham is the final step in making a juicy and succulent baked ham. There are different factors to consider during the baking process, including temperature, glaze, and basting.
Temperature- The temperature is crucial for getting a perfectly cooked ham. The ideal temperature for baking a ham is 325°F. Baking the ham at this temperature ensures that it cooks evenly, preventing it from drying out.
Glaze- Adding a glaze is an excellent way to enhance the flavor of the ham. Glazes can be sweet, tangy, or spicy, depending on your preference. Glazes also add to the overall juiciness of the ham by sealing in the moisture. Most glazes are applied during the last hour of baking to prevent burning.
Basting- Basting is a technique that involves spooning or brushing the ham with its juices or glaze during the baking process. This technique helps to keep the ham juicy by coating it in its own juices. Basting also adds to the flavor of the ham by distributing the glaze or seasoning evenly.
Doneness- It is essential to cook the ham to the right doneness to ensure its safety and taste. The internal temperature of the ham should reach 145°F. Inserting a meat thermometer into the thickest part of the ham can ensure that it is fully cooked.
Conclusion
Making a juicy and succulent baked ham is not rocket science. By following these valuable tips, you can make a mouth-watering ham that will be the center of attention at any gathering. Remember to choose the right ham, prepare it adequately, and bake it to perfection. With these tips, you can enjoy a perfectly cooked ham that is always juicy and flavorful.
