AWARD WINNING CHEESE BALL

Award Winning Cheese Ball image

Provided by My Food and Family

Categories     Appetizers & Snacks

Time 30m

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 pkg (8 oz.) cream cheese
1 jar Kraft Old English Cheese Spread
1 jar Kraft Bacon Flavored Cheese Spread
1 Tablespoon white wine vinegar
Garlic salt to taste
Onion salt to Taste
Parsley flakes
Crackers of your choice

Steps:

  • Mix the cream cheese, Old English Spread, Bacon Spread, and vinegar in a bowl with a blender. Using a spoon will also work, but using your blender will cut the time in half, and the mixture will be nice and creamy. When everything is mixed, start to add the garlic and onion salt to taste. Start off small, and work your way up towards a flavor that you enjoy.
  • When you are finished, put the cheese mixture in a decorative smaller bowl, and coat the top with the parsley flakes.
  • Put in the refrigerator for at least a half hour to chill before serving. I almost always make this cheese ball the night before you will eat it. This allows all of the flavors in the cheese ball to mix, and bring out all of the flavor. Enjoy! This tastes great!

BITS AND PIECES PARTY CHEESE BALL

Bits and Pieces Party Cheese Ball image

The cheese ball is a stalwart of the Midwest cocktail party, where it can be fashioned from processed Cheddar cheese and port wine, or pineapple and cream cheese. This recipe relies on the leftover ends of good cheese or even just one kind of good-quality, sharp cheese like Gruyère. The idea of adding butter comes from Vivian Howard, the North Carolina chef who features a cheese ball with blue cheese, chopped dates and bacon in her cookbook "Deep Run Roots." She calls hers a party magnet, and indeed, for all of the shade thrown at cheese balls, they are often the first thing to be eaten. They can be served with chutney, jam or simply alongside the best-quality crackers you can find.

Time 15m

Yield 1 12-ounce cheese ball, about 8 to 10 servings

4 tablespoons good-quality salted butter
1 cup shredded sharp, flavorful cheese, in any combination that might include Gruyère, Cheddar or blue cheese

1/4 teaspoon cayenne
1/4 teaspoon fish sauce
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/3 cup chopped, salted roasted pecans

About Als

Als, short for Al's Gourmet Cheese, has been creating delicious cheese products since 1956. Located in Ohio, they produce a variety of cheese, from classic cheddar to unique flavors like garlic and jalapeño. Their cheese balls have won numerous awards over the years, and for good reason - they're the perfect blend of flavor and texture.

Why Garlic Cheese Balls?

Garlic cheese balls offer a unique twist on the classic recipe. They add a burst of garlic flavor that makes them stand out from other cheese balls. Garlic also has a number of health benefits, including boosting your immune system and reducing inflammation. So not only are garlic cheese balls tasty, but they're good for you as well!

The Recipes

While we won't be sharing the exact recipes for Als' award-winning garlic cheese balls, we can give you a general idea of what goes into them. Here are the key ingredients you can expect to see:
Cheese
Of course, cheese is the main component of any cheese ball recipe. Als uses a blend of cream cheese, sharp cheddar cheese, and Parmesan cheese to create their garlic cheese balls. This mixture creates a balance between creamy and tangy flavors that perfectly complements the garlic.
Garlic
As the star of the show, garlic is a crucial component of any garlic cheese ball recipe. Als uses fresh garlic that has been finely minced to create a potent garlic flavor. They use enough garlic to make sure it's the dominant flavor, but not so much that it overpowers the cheese.
Herbs and Spices
To round out the flavor, Als uses a blend of herbs and spices in their garlic cheese balls. These can include parsley, chives, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. The herbs and spices not only add flavor, but also provide a pop of color that makes the cheese balls visually appealing.
Coating
Finally, the cheese balls are rolled in a coating to give them a bit of texture and crunch. This can be anything from crushed nuts to bread crumbs to bacon bits. The coating also adds a complementary flavor that enhances the overall taste of the cheese ball.

Cooking Tips

If you're ready to try making your own garlic cheese balls, here are a few tips to keep in mind: - Start with room temperature cream cheese to make it easier to mix with the other ingredients. - Mix the cheese and herbs together first and then add the garlic last to prevent it from becoming too overpowering. - Refrigerate the cheese ball mixture for at least an hour before rolling it into balls. This will make it easier to handle and prevent it from sticking to your hands. - If you want to make the cheese ball ahead of time, keep it refrigerated until ready to serve. Let it come to room temperature for 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to develop.

Conclusion

Garlic cheese balls are a delicious and unique twist on the classic cheese ball recipe. Als' award-winning garlic cheese ball recipes are sure to impress your guests and make your next party a hit. With their perfect blend of garlic, cheese, and herbs, they're a flavorful and visually appealing appetizer that everyone will love.

Tips for Making an Award-Winning Garlic Cheese Ball Recipe

Making a garlic cheese ball is a quick and easy way to elevate any party or gathering. However, creating an award-winning recipe requires some effort and attention to detail. In this article, we'll discuss some valuable tips that will help you make a garlic cheese ball that everyone will love.
1. Choose Quality Ingredients
The first step in creating an award-winning garlic cheese ball recipe is to choose quality ingredients. Use the best cheese, butter, spices, and herbs you can find. For cheese, choose a blend of different types such as cheddar, parmesan, or gouda. Fresh herbs like chives, parsley, or basil are perfect for adding an extra layer of flavor.
2. Let the Cheese Come to Room Temperature
One of the most common mistakes that people make when making a cheese ball is not allowing the cheese to come to room temperature. Cold cheese can ruin the texture of the cheese ball, making it difficult to mix with other ingredients. To prevent this from happening, allow the cheese to come to room temperature by taking it out of the fridge for at least an hour before starting your recipe.
3. Use a Food Processor or Mixer
To ensure that your garlic cheese ball has a smooth, creamy texture, use a food processor or mixer to blend the cheese, butter, and other ingredients. A food processor or mixer makes it easier to mix the ingredients evenly, which in turn makes the cheese ball easier to shape into a perfect ball.
4. Add the Garlic Last
Garlic is a crucial ingredient in any garlic cheese ball recipe. However, adding it too early can result in a less-than-pleasant garlic taste. To avoid this, add the garlic last and in small increments. This way, you can control the intensity of the garlic flavor and ensure that it doesn't overpower the cheese.
5. Don't Overmix the Ingredients
While it's important to use a food processor or mixer to blend the ingredients evenly, it's also important not to overmix them. Overmixing can cause the cheese ball to become dry and crumbly. After mixing the ingredients, use your hands to shape the cheese ball gently. It should be firm but not too hard.
6. Chill the Cheese Ball
After shaping the cheese ball, it's important to chill it for at least an hour before serving. Chilling allows the flavors to meld together and gives the cheese ball a firmer texture. It also makes it easier to roll the cheese ball in toppings such as nuts or herbs, which is an essential step when creating an award-winning garlic cheese ball recipe.
7. Experiment with Toppings
When it comes to toppings, don't be afraid to experiment with different flavors and textures. Coating your garlic cheese ball with nuts, herbs, or even bacon bits can add an extra layer of flavor and texture. Some people like to coat their cheese balls with a coating of crushed crackers or pretzels, which adds a satisfying crunch.
8. Serve with the Right Accompaniments
Finally, when serving your award-winning garlic cheese ball, it's important to choose the right accompaniments. Crackers or breadsticks are a classic choice, but you can also serve your cheese ball with fresh vegetables like carrots and celery. A sweet accompaniment, like a fruit preserve or jam, can also be a delicious addition to your cheese ball. In conclusion, making an award-winning garlic cheese ball recipe requires a bit of effort and attention to detail. However, with the above tips and some creativity, you'll be able to create a delicious and impressive cheese ball that will impress everyone at your next party or gathering. Happy cooking!
