CLASSIC CLUB SANDWICH

Categories     main-dish

Time 10m

Yield 4 main-course servings.

Number Of Ingredients 10

12 slices white bread
3/4 cup mayonnaise
8 romaine lettuce leaves
16 slices vine-ripened tomatoes
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
16 slices crispy cooked bacon
16 ounces sliced roasted turkey
16 frill picks, or plastic cocktail swords
Potato chips
Sweet pickles

Steps:

  • Toast the bread in a toaster, or under a broiler on both sides. Cut the lettuce leaves in half crosswise and form into 8 neat stacks.
  • To make a double-decker club: On a clean work surface, arrange 3 bread slices in a row. Spread 1 tablespoon mayonnaise over 1 side of each bread slice. Place a lettuce stack on top of the first bread slice, top with 2 tomato slices, and season with salt and pepper, to taste. Place 2 slices bacon over the tomatoes (broken to fit neatly if necessary) and top with 1/8 of the turkey (without letting any hang over the sides). Season the turkey with salt and pepper, to taste. Repeat with the second bread slice. Carefully place the second layered bread slice on top of the first layered bread, turkey side-up. Cover with the third bread slice, mayonnaise side-down.
  • Pin the sandwich's layers together by piercing them with 4 frill picks or cocktail swords through the top bread slice, in 4 places in a diamond-like pattern, all the way to the bottom bread slice. Repeat entire process with the remaining ingredients to form 3 more sandwiches.
  • Using a serrated knife cut each sandwich, diagonally, into 4 triangular pieces (each piece should be secured in the center with a pick or sword). Serve with potato chips and pickles.

Club sandwiches are a classic dish, beloved by people around the world. These sandwiches are known for their layered goodness, with a variety of flavors and textures combining to create something truly special. One variation of the classic club sandwich is the alpine club sandwich, a delicious twist on the original. The alpine club sandwich is characterized by its hearty ingredients and alpine-inspired flavors, making it a perfect choice for anyone who loves mountain cuisine. In this article, we'll be discussing valuable tips for making alpine club sandwich recipes.

Tip 1: Choose the Right Bread

When it comes to making alpine club sandwiches, the right bread is key. You want to select a bread that is hearty enough to stand up to all the ingredients you'll be piling on, but not so dense that it overwhelms the flavors. A good choice is a rustic, crusty bread with a chewy texture, such as sourdough or ciabatta. You can also try using a bread with grains or nuts for added flavor and texture.

Tip 2: Experiment with Meats

The traditional club sandwich typically features turkey, bacon, and ham, but the alpine club sandwich offers more room for experimentation. Instead of those traditional meats, why not try using prosciutto, smoked salmon, or grilled chicken? You can even use a combination of different meats to create a unique flavor profile. Just make sure to choose meats that are hearty enough to hold up to the other ingredients in the sandwich.

Tip 3: Choose the Right Vegetables

Vegetables are another important component of any alpine club sandwich. One great choice is arugula, a flavorful green that adds a peppery kick to the sandwich. Other great options include roasted red peppers, grilled mushrooms, and caramelized onions. Just be careful not to add too much, as the sandwich may become too heavy and overpowering.

Tip 4: Add Cheese

No alpine club sandwich would be complete without cheese. You can choose a variety of different cheeses depending on your preferences, but a good choice is something with a strong flavor that can stand up to the other ingredients. Try using Gruyere, a classic Swiss cheese with a nutty flavor, or Parmesan, which adds a sharp, salty taste to the sandwich.

Tip 5: Don't Forget the Sauce

The right sauce can elevate an alpine club sandwich from good to great. Try using a sauce that complements the other flavors in the sandwich, such as a garlic aioli or a honey mustard dressing. You can also experiment with different types of sauces, such as a pesto or a chipotle mayo, to create a unique flavor profile.

Tip 6: Add a Pickle on the Side

While not technically part of the sandwich, adding a pickle on the side can be the perfect finishing touch. The tartness of the pickle can help cut through the richness of the sandwich, balancing out the flavors. You can also try other types of pickled vegetables, such as cherry peppers or pickled onions, for an added burst of flavor.
Conclusion
Alpine club sandwiches are a delicious twist on the classic club sandwich, featuring hearty ingredients and alpine-inspired flavors. By following these valuable tips, you'll be able to create a sandwich that is packed with flavor and texture. Remember to choose the right bread, experiment with meats and vegetables, add cheese and sauce, and don't forget the pickle on the side. With these tips in mind, you'll be on your way to creating the perfect alpine club sandwich recipe.
