Jo's Hawaiian Chicken Burgers image

I concocted this burger while craving a juicy burger with great flavor. Next time, I would like to mince the jalapenos and add them into the ground chicken patties...when the kids are not joining us for dinner.

Time 30m

Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 teaspoon olive oil
⅓ cup diced red onion
2 teaspoons minced garlic
1 teaspoon minced fresh ginger
1 pound ground chicken
¾ cup panko bread crumbs
2 tablespoons teriyaki sauce
salt and ground black pepper to taste
4 pineapple rings
4 slices provolone cheese
4 hamburger buns, split
2 tablespoons light mayonnaise, or to taste
8 canned jalapeno pepper slices, or to taste

Steps:

  • Heat oil in a small skillet over medium heat. Add red onion, garlic, and ginger; saute until onion has softened and turned translucent, about 5 minutes. Set aside to cool.
  • Preheat an outdoor grill for medium-high heat and lightly oil the grate.
  • Combine chicken, panko, teriyaki sauce, salt, and pepper in a large bowl. Add cooled onion and mix gently with your hands until fully incorporated. Create 4 burger patties.
  • Grill burgers on the preheated grill until cooked through, 5 to 6 minutes per side, adding provolone slices towards the end of the cooking time so they can melt. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center of the burgers should read at least 165 degrees F (74 degrees C). Grill pineapple slices alongside the burgers until warm, about 1 minute per side.
  • While the burgers are cooking, prepare hamburger buns with a light smear of mayonnaise. Place cooked burgers on buns and top with pineapple slices and jalapeno peppers.

Time 1h20m

Yield 2 Aloha Chicken Burgers, 2 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 11

2 boneless skinless chicken breast halves
1/4 cup soy sauce
3 slices thick cut bacon
2 large hamburger buns, split
1 tablespoon softened butter
1/4 cup teriyaki sauce
2 slices swiss cheese
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
2 slices pineapple
2 slices tomatoes
2 leaves iceberg lettuce

Steps:

  • Place chicken breasts into a plastic zipper bag with soy sauce, seal the bag, and marinate in refrigerator for 30 minutes. While chicken is marinating, place the bacon in a large, deep skillet, and cook over medium-high heat, turning occasionally, until evenly browned, about 10 minutes. Drain the bacon slices on a paper towel-lined plate, and set aside. Spread cut sides of hamburger buns with butter.
  • Preheat an outdoor grill for medium heat, and lightly oil the grate.
  • Remove the chicken from the soy sauce, and discard the excess soy sauce. Place the chicken breast onto the preheated grill, and grill until chicken shows good grill marks, is no longer pink inside, and the juices run clear, 4 to 5 minutes per side. When chicken is almost done, brush each piece generously on both sides with teriyaki sauce to finish grilling. Place a slice of Swiss cheese on each chicken breast, and cover with a lid to help the cheese melt onto the chicken.
  • While chicken is grilling, spread the buns open on the grill and cook until toasted and showing grill lines, about 2 minutes. Set the bun aside.
  • To assemble, spread the grilled sides of each bun with mayonnaise, and top each bottom bun with a cooked chicken breast, 1 1/2 slices of bacon, a slice of pineapple, a lettuce leave, a slice of tomato, and the top bun.
  • COOK'S NOTE:.
  • If you don't want to grill, loosely roll up marinated chicken breast with teriyaki sauce in foil, and bake at 400°F for 20 minutes. Then open foil, and melt cheese on top.

If you’re a fan of burgers and love the taste of Hawaiian-inspired cuisine, then you’re going to love an Aloha chicken burger. This delicious meal combines the smoky flavors of chicken with the tangy and sweet taste of pineapple and other tropical ingredients. However, making an amazing Aloha chicken burger isn’t as simple as grilling some chicken breasts, topping them with a slice of pineapple and a slice of cheese, and calling it a day. In order to make the perfect burger, you’ll need to follow a few tips and tricks to ensure that each bite is packed with flavor.

Tip #1: Choose the Right Type of Chicken

One of the most important factors in making an amazing Aloha chicken burger is choosing the right type of chicken. While you could go with a standard boneless, skinless chicken breast, this won’t give your burger the depth of flavor that it deserves. Instead, consider marinading your chicken in a flavorful mixture before grilling it. This will help to infuse the meat with flavor and keep it juicy and tender throughout the cooking process.
Marinade Recipe:
- 1/4 cup soy sauce - 1/4 cup brown sugar - 2 tbsp. olive oil - 1 tbsp. minced garlic - 1 tbsp. minced ginger - 1 tbsp. sesame oil - Salt and pepper to taste Combine all ingredients in a bowl, mix well, and pour over chicken breasts in a container or sealable plastic bag. Let chicken marinate in the fridge for at least 30 minutes, but preferably for a few hours or overnight.

Tip #2: Choose the Right Type of Cheese

Another important factor in making a delicious Aloha chicken burger is choosing the right type of cheese. While you could go with a standard cheddar or American cheese, this won’t complement the flavors of the burger as well. Instead, consider using a cheese that pairs well with the tropical flavors of pineapple and other ingredients. Swiss or pepper jack cheese are both great options for an Aloha chicken burger, as they have a unique flavor that will complement the other ingredients perfectly.

Tip #3: Choose the Right Toppings

When it comes to your burger toppings, you want to choose ingredients that will enhance the overall flavor of the dish. This means avoiding toppings that are too heavy or overpowering, as they will take away from the natural flavors of the chicken and pineapple. Instead, consider using toppings that are light and refreshing. Some great options could include: - Pineapple rings - Lettuce - Tomato slices - Red onion slices - Avocado slices - Cilantro

Tip #4: Toast Your Buns

Lastly, you’ll want to make sure that you’re toasting your buns before assembling your Aloha chicken burger. This may seem like a small detail, but it can make a big difference in the overall flavor and texture of the burger. Toasting your buns will help to give them a crispy texture on the outside, while still remaining soft and fluffy on the inside. This will help to complement the other ingredients of the burger and create a more cohesive overall flavor.

Conclusion

By following these simple tips and tricks, you can make an amazing Aloha chicken burger that will transport your taste buds to a tropical paradise. Remember to choose the right type of chicken, cheese, and toppings, and toasting your buns before assembling your burger. With a little bit of time and effort, you can create a burger that is both delicious and satisfying, and that will leave you feeling like you’re lounging on a beach in Hawaii.
