Categories     dessert

Time 1h

Yield 8 individual crisps

Number Of Ingredients 14

1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
Dash nutmeg
1 1/2 sticks cold butter
1/2 cup slivered almonds
Four 12-ounce bags frozen tart cherries
1/4 cup cornstarch
2 teaspoons almond extract
2 cups heavy cream
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
Vanilla ice cream, optional

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Start with the crumb mixture. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, cinnamon, salt and nutmeg.
  • Cut the cold butter into pieces. Add the butter to the bowl and use a fork or pastry blender to cut it into the flour mixture. The mixture should resemble a moist, coarse meal. Add the slivered almonds and combine thoroughly.
  • Place the still-frozen cherries in a bowl, add the remaining 1/2 cup granulated sugar, cornstarch and almond extract and gently stir the cherries to combine.
  • Divide the cherries between 8 ramekins (about 1/2 cup each). Top with the crumb mixture, evening out the surface.
  • Bake until the topping is crisp and golden brown, about 45 minutes. If the topping appears underdone, continue baking in 10 minute increments until it's done.
  • To serve: Add the heavy cream and granulated sugar to the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the whisk attachment and whip. Keep in the fridge until ready to serve.
  • Serve the individual crisps warm or at room temperature with a dollop of freshly whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

It is a perfect combination of sweet cherries and nutty almond flavors, resulting in a mouth-watering dessert that everyone will love.

Valuable Tips for Making Almond Cherry Ring Recipes

Tip #1: Use Fresh and High-Quality Ingredients

When making almond cherry ring recipes, it is crucial to use fresh and high-quality ingredients to ensure that the dish is flavorful and wholesome. Always use fresh and ripe cherries, unsalted and toasted almond slivers, and high-quality flour and sugar. You can also use organic ingredients to make your almond cherry ring healthier and tastier.

Tip #2: Use the Right Pan

Using the right pan is essential to ensure that your almond cherry ring is cooked evenly and perfectly. For this recipe, it is recommended to use a 9-inch round cake pan. You can use a non-stick or aluminum pan but make sure that it is sturdy and durable enough to prevent the almond cherry ring from sticking or breaking apart.

Tip #3: Prepare the Cherries Properly

One of the keys to a delicious almond cherry ring is to prepare the cherries properly. Make sure to remove the stems and pits from the cherries before using them in the recipe. You can use a cherry pitter or a small knife to remove the pits carefully. Also, you can cut the cherries in half to ensure that they are evenly spread over the almond ring.

Tip #4: Use Almond Flour to Enhance Almond Flavor

If you want to enhance the nutty almond flavor of your almond cherry ring, you can use almond flour instead of regular flour in the recipe. Almond flour is made from finely ground almonds and is gluten-free, which makes it perfect for people with gluten intolerance. Using almond flour in this recipe will give your almond cherry ring a richer and more complex flavor.

Tip #5: Don't Overmix the Batter

When making the batter for your almond cherry ring, be careful not to overmix it. Overmixing can result in a dense and tough cake. Mix the ingredients until they are just combined, and then stop. Also, be gentle when folding in the cherries and almond slivers to prevent them from getting mashed or broken.

Tip #6: Use the Right Cooking Time and Temperature

Cooking time and temperature are critical factors that can affect the texture and flavor of your almond cherry ring. For this recipe, preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C), and bake your almond cherry ring for 30-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. Do not open the oven door frequently while baking, as this can cause your cake to collapse or become dry.

Tip #7: Let the Cake Cool Before Slicing

When your almond cherry ring is done baking, let it cool completely before slicing it. This will allow the cake to set and retain its shape. Also, be sure to use a sharp serrated knife to slice the cake to prevent it from crumbing or breaking apart. You can serve your almond cherry ring plain or dust it with powdered sugar for a more elegant look.

Conclusion

Almond cherry ring recipe is a delicious dessert that can easily make at home with the right ingredients and cooking techniques. The recipe is perfect for any occasion and is sure to impress your family and friends. Following these valuable tips will help you make the perfect almond cherry ring every time.
