ALMOND BUTTER CRUNCH CANDY

Almond Butter Crunch Candy image

This is a yummy candy that I make each year to put in amongst (if that is a word) my cookies on the trays. It came from a Better Homes & Garden Candy Cookbook back in the '60s. It is one that is easy to make and comes out great every time. It is very tasty and has a great crunch if you are sure to bring it to the hard crack stage.

When it comes to sweet treats and snacks, everyone has their own preferences. While some may prefer traditional chocolate chip cookies or candies, others might gravitate towards more unique flavors and textures. One delicious option that has been gaining popularity in recent years is almond butter crunch. This tasty treat is a crunchy, buttery confection that is perfect for snacking on or giving as a gift.

What is Almond Butter Crunch?

Almond butter crunch is a candy made with butter, sugar, and almonds. The mixture is cooked until it reaches a toffee-like consistency, and then spread out on a baking sheet to cool and harden. Once it has hardened, it is broken into pieces and can be eaten as a snack or used as a topping for ice cream or other desserts.

Almond Butter Crunch vs. Almond Toffee

While almond butter crunch and almond toffee are similar in many ways, there are a few key differences between the two. Almond toffee is made with a similar recipe, but usually includes chocolate or another coating on the outside. Additionally, almond toffee is typically cut into smaller, individual pieces, while almond butter crunch is broken into larger chunks. Finally, almond toffee is often used as a gift or special occasion treat, while almond butter crunch is more commonly eaten as a snack or added to other desserts.

Variations on the Recipe

There are countless variations on the almond butter crunch recipe, each of which adds a unique twist to the classic treat. Here are a few popular variations:

Dark Chocolate Almond Butter Crunch:

This version of almond butter crunch includes a layer of dark chocolate on top of the toffee mixture. The dark chocolate adds a bitter note that complements the sweet, buttery flavors of the candy.

Spiced Almond Butter Crunch:

For those who enjoy a bit of heat, spiced almond butter crunch is a great option. This version includes spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and cayenne pepper to add a kick of flavor to the candy.

Almond Coconut Crunch:

This variation swaps out some of the almonds for shredded coconut, adding a tropical flair to the classic recipe.

How to Make Almond Butter Crunch

While there are many variations on the recipe, the basic steps for making almond butter crunch are relatively straightforward:

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp corn syrup
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup sliced almonds
Instructions:
  1. Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. In a large saucepan, combine the butter, sugar, corn syrup, and salt. Cook the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it reaches a temperature of 300 degrees Fahrenheit (150 degrees Celsius) on a candy thermometer.
  3. Remove the mixture from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract and sliced almonds.
  4. Pour the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet and use a spatula to spread it out evenly.
  5. Allow the mixture to cool completely, then break it into pieces and serve.

Conclusion

Whether you prefer it plain or with a twist, almond butter crunch is a delicious and easy candy to make at home. It can be eaten as a snack, added to desserts, or given as a gift. With just a few simple ingredients and a candy thermometer, anyone can create this crunchy, buttery treat.

Almond butter crunch is a popular dessert dish that has become a staple in many homes. Made with simple ingredients such as almonds, butter, and sugar, this recipe is easy to make and can be enjoyed by both adults and children. However, the success of this treat lies in the preparation and presentation. Here are some valuable tips to consider when making almond butter crunch recipes.

Select the right ingredients

When making almond butter crunch, it is critical to use the right ingredients. Select high-quality almonds that have not been roasted, salted, or flavored. Roasted almonds are a popular snack and while delicious, the roasting process adds a layer of flavor that may not complement the other ingredients in the recipe. Similarly, salted almonds can alter the overall taste of your almond butter crunch making it too salty. It is also advisable to use unsalted butter to give your recipe an authentic taste.
Consider the sweetness level
The sweetness level of your almond butter crunch recipe will determine the overall flavor. It is essential to establish how sweet you want the recipe to be before you start cooking. In some cases, you may have to adjust the sweetness level by adding more or reducing sugar in the recipe. If you like your almond butter crunch a little sweeter, you can add more sugar to achieve this.

Use a reliable recipe

Using a reliable recipe is crucial when making almond butter crunch. Ensure that the recipe you use has been tested and proven to work. A reliable recipe will guarantee that your dish will come out perfect, reducing the chances of it going wrong. You could also opt to personalize the recipe over time as you become more experienced.
Be precise when measuring
When making almond butter crunch, it is essential to be precise when measuring the ingredients. Being precise not only ensures that you get the right taste but also the right texture. Inconsistencies in the ingredients can result in a brittle and hard almond butter crunch. One of the best ways to ensure precision is by using a kitchen scale, especially when dealing with solid ingredients like butter.

Invest in a good pot

When making almond butter crunch, it is important to invest in a good pot. This is because the candy needs to cook for an extended period, and a pot that's too thin or shallow could cause the ingredients to burn. A good pot should have thick sides and a wide base, which helps distribute heat evenly for even cooking.
Never leave the pot unattended
Making almond butter crunch can be time-consuming, and it is tempting to walk away while the candy is cooking. However, this is a big mistake as leaving the pot unattended can result in the ingredients burning or overcooking. It is, therefore, crucial to keep a close eye on the pot to give it the attention it requires.

Cool the mixture thoroughly

Once you have cooked your almond butter crunch, it is important to cool it thoroughly before breaking it into pieces. This ensures that the candy is firm and brittle, making it easier to cut into pieces. Cooling the mixture can take up to an hour, so be patient and let the mixture cool completely before breaking it into pieces.
Break the candy carefully
Breaking the cooled mixture into pieces can be tricky, but it is essential to be careful to avoid breaking the candy into smaller bits. Place the cooled mixture on a flat surface, preferably a cutting board, and use a sharp knife to break it into bite-size pieces. Be careful not to apply too much pressure as this could cause the candy to break into small bits.

Store the almond butter crunch properly

Proper storage is essential when making almond butter crunch. You should store the candy in an airtight container, preferably a glass jar, to keep it fresh for longer. You could also store the candy in the refrigerator to keep it cool and crisp. Before serving, let the candy sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes to achieve the perfect texture.
Experiment with toppings
Almond butter crunch can taste great on its own but can be even better with some toppings. You could try drizzling chocolate or caramel over the candy for a sweet and decadent experience or sprinkle some sea salt over the candy for a sweet and salty experience.

Conclusion

Making almond butter crunch is easy and fun. With the right ingredients and precise measurements, you can prepare the perfect almond butter crunch each time. It is essential to be patient and attentive when cooking the candy and to cool it thoroughly before breaking it into pieces. With these valuable tips, you can turn your almond butter crunch into a masterpiece that everyone will love.
