ALMOND BRICKLE COFFEE CAKE

Almond Brickle Coffee Cake image

This is a family favourite coffee cake, I am always asked to bring it for Chrismas breakfast or family brunches. I also make it every year for a charity Bake Sale, it is easy, sells quickly and has been requested by people that have previously purchased it. The apricot and toffee bits combine to make a moist coffee cake that looks as good as it tastes.

Almond Brickle Coffee Cake Recipes: A Delicious Treat for Any Occasion

Almond brickle coffee cake is a sweet and moist cake that is perfect for breakfast, brunch or as a dessert. This classic cake is made with almond extract, brown sugar, and toffee bits, which gives it a rich and nutty flavor. Whether you are hosting a large gathering or simply want to indulge in a comforting treat, almond brickle coffee cake recipes are a go-to choice.
The Ingredients
To prepare almond brickle coffee cake, you will need a few basic ingredients such as flour, baking soda, salt, butter, brown sugar, almond extract, eggs, sour cream, and toffee bits or almond brickle bits. The exact quantity of each ingredient may vary depending on the recipe, but the basic components are generally the same.
The Preparation
Preparing almond brickle coffee cake requires some time and effort, but it is well worth it. Begin by preheating your oven to the temperature specified in the recipe. Then, combine the dry ingredients in a bowl and whisk them together. In a separate bowl, beat the butter and brown sugar together until the mixture becomes light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, whisking well between each addition. Once the wet ingredients are well-combined, add the dry ingredients gradually to the mixture, alternating with the sour cream. Mix well to ensure that there are no lumps. Finally, fold in the toffee bits or almond brickle bits.
Baking the cake
Once the batter is prepared, pour it into a greased baking dish and bake in the preheated oven for the specified time. Keep an eye on the cake to ensure that it does not overbake. It should be golden brown on the top and a toothpick inserted into the center should come out clean. Once the cake is baked through, remove it from the oven and allow it to cool for a while. You can then dust some powdered sugar on top or add a glaze. The cake can be served warm or at room temperature, depending on your preference.
Variations
Almond brickle coffee cake can be prepared in many different ways. For instance, you can substitute the almond extract with vanilla extract or use a combination of both for a unique flavor. You can also add some chopped nuts to the batter to give the cake a crunchier texture. If you want to add some fruity flavor to the cake, you can add some fresh berries to the batter before baking. Alternatively, you can serve the cake with a fruit sauce or preserve.

Valuable Tips When Making Almond Brickle Coffee Cake

Almond brickle coffee cake is a delicious and indulgent treat that is perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dessert. It is made with a rich and flavorful cake base that is studded with crunchy bits of almond brickle and topped with a sweet and buttery streusel. If you are thinking about making almond brickle coffee cake, here are some valuable tips to keep in mind.
Tip #1: Choose the Right Pan
Choosing the right pan is crucial when making almond brickle coffee cake. You want a pan that is deep enough to accommodate the cake batter and the streusel topping. A 9-inch springform pan is an excellent option because it is easy to use and allows you to remove the cake from the pan without damaging it. Alternatively, you can use a 9-inch square baking pan, but you will need to be careful when removing the cake from the pan.
Tip #2: Use High-Quality Ingredients
The quality of the ingredients you use will make a big difference in the final outcome of your almond brickle coffee cake. Use high-quality butter, flour, sugar, and almond brickle for the best results. If you can, use organic and locally sourced ingredients to make your cake even more delicious and nutritious.
Tip #3: Mix the Batter Properly
When mixing the batter for your almond brickle coffee cake, be sure to follow the recipe closely. Use room temperature ingredients and mix everything together until it is just combined. Overmixing can result in a tough and rubbery cake that is not enjoyable to eat. If you are using an electric mixer, use the lowest speed possible to avoid overmixing.
Tip #4: Add Almond Brickle for Texture and Flavor
Almond brickle is a crunchy and flavorful addition to your coffee cake. It adds texture and a sweet, nutty flavor that complements the rich cake base. To use almond brickle in your coffee cake, simply sprinkle it over the batter before baking. You can also mix it into the batter for a more even distribution.
Tip #5: Make a Delicious Streusel Topping
The streusel topping is what takes your almond brickle coffee cake to the next level. To make a delicious streusel topping, combine flour, sugar, and butter in a bowl and mix until it forms a crumbly mixture. Then stir in chopped nuts, such as almonds or pecans, for extra flavor and crunch. Sprinkle the streusel over the top of the cake batter before baking.
Tip #6: Don't Overbake the Cake
Overbaking is a common mistake when making almond brickle coffee cake. To avoid this, keep a close eye on the cake while it is baking and check it regularly with a toothpick or knife. When the cake is done, the toothpick or knife should come out clean. If you overbake the cake, it will be dry and crumbly instead of moist and fluffy.
Tip #7: Let the Cake Cool Before Serving
It is important to let your almond brickle coffee cake cool before serving. This will allow the cake to set and the flavors to meld together. Once the cake has cooled, you can remove it from the pan and slice it into pieces. Serve with a cup of coffee or tea for a delicious and indulgent treat.
Tip #8: Store the Cake Properly
If you have leftover almond brickle coffee cake, store it properly to keep it fresh. Wrap the cake in plastic wrap or aluminum foil and store it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. You can also freeze the cake for up to 2 months by wrapping it tightly in plastic wrap and then aluminum foil. In conclusion, almond brickle coffee cake is a delicious and indulgent treat that is perfect for any occasion. By following these valuable tips, you can ensure that your almond brickle coffee cake turns out perfectly every time. Enjoy!
