ALLISON'S TACO WINGS

These are always a hit at our house, especially with the guys. This one is also from my SIL who is a great cook (thanks Al). It requires at least one hour of marination - but is best when marinated overnight.

Time 13h15m

Yield 24 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

18 -24 chicken wings
2 (1 1/4 ounce) packages taco seasoning (we like Old El Paso)
1/8 cup vinegar
1/8 cup oil
1 dash cayenne pepper (or more to taste)

Steps:

  • Clean chicken wings, cut at the joints into three pieces and discard wing tips.
  • In a large resealable plastic bag, combine the taco seasoning, vinegar, oil and cayenne by "squishing" the bag to make a paste.
  • Add the chicken wing pieces, seal the bag and "squish" until the paste is distributed evenly over the chicken pieces (if the paste is too thick then add a small amount of vinegar or water -- but remember it is a paste - almost a rub).
  • Marinate chicken 1 hour at room temperature or overnight in the refrigerator.
  • Preheat oven to 400°F.
  • Spread wings pieces on a baking sheet lined with foil (for easiest clean-up). Try to maintain some space between each piece - use a second baking sheet if necessary.
  • Brush pieces with any extra paste.
  • Bake at 400 for 1 to 1 1/4 hours, turning half way through the baking time.
  • Can be held in a crock pot to serve at a party or buffet.

I make these spicy appetizers for parties and football games and never have any leftovers. The hot wings contrast nicely with the cool but zippy dip. When the wings run out, we use the extra cilantro dip on tortilla chips. -Barbara McConaughey, Houlton, Wisconsin

Tips for Making Alison's Taco Wings Recipe

If you're a fan of crispy wings and a lover of tacos, then Alison's Taco Wings recipe is just what you need to satisfy your cravings. This perfect combination of crispy wings and authentic taco seasoning will have your taste buds dancing. To ensure that you enjoy every bite of this delectable recipe, here are some tips that you should keep in mind when making Allison's Taco Wings recipe.
1. Use Fresh Wings
The first tip when making Alison's Taco Wings recipe is to use fresh wings. If you use frozen wings, they will not achieve the crispy texture that fresh wings bring. It's important to use fresh, quality chicken wings for the perfect texture and taste.
2. Marinate The Wings Overnight
For maximum flavor, it's recommended to marinate the wings overnight. This allows the seasoning to soak into the meat, resulting in a more flavorful dish. The longer you marinate your wings, the more time the flavors have to infuse into the chicken, giving it a richer flavor.
3. Mix the Seasoning Evenly
When mixing your seasoning, make sure that you mix it evenly. This is particularly important if you're using a pre-packaged seasoning that comes with different components. It's a good idea to mix each component separately before blending them together. This ensures that each wing gets a taste of every flavor.
4. Use the Right Amount of Flour
Alison's Taco Wings recipe uses a flour mixture that helps to give the wings a crispy texture. Make sure that you use the right amount of flour to avoid it being too thick or too thin. Too much flour can make the wings unpleasantly dry, while too little flour will result in an uneven coating.
5. Fry at the Right Temperature
Frying the wings at the right temperature is critical to achieving a crispy skin. The oil should be hot enough to crisp up the wings but not too hot that it burns them. A temperature of 375°F is ideal for frying the wings. If the oil is too hot, the wings will burn on the outside and still be raw on the inside.
6. Use a Wire Rack to Drain the Wings
After frying your wings, make sure to drain them on a wire rack instead of paper towels. This helps to prevent the wings from getting soggy as they cool down. Additionally, the wire rack ensures that the wings are evenly crisp.
7. Serve Hot
Finally, serve your Alison's Taco Wings hot. Nothing spoils the crispiness of fried wings more than serving them cold. If you need to reheat the wings later, use an oven instead of a microwave as it helps to preserve their crispy texture. In conclusion, Alison's Taco Wings recipe is a delicious and easy-to-follow recipe. You can make it even better by keeping these tips in mind. Enjoy your crispy, flavorful wings with a cold beer or margarita, and enjoy the taste of taco seasoning in every bite.
