Southern fried chicken is a popular dish that is loved by many people all over the world. It is a dish that involves coating the chicken with a seasoned flour mixture, and then frying it in oil until it is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. While traditional Southern fried chicken is cooked in a deep fryer, an air fryer can also be used to make a healthier version of the dish. In this article, we will provide you with valuable tips that you can use when making air fryer Southern fried chicken recipes.

Tip #1: Preheat Your Air Fryer

Before you start cooking your air fryer Southern fried chicken, it is important to preheat your air fryer. This ensures that your chicken cooks evenly and quickly. Preheating your air fryer also helps to create a crispy crust on your chicken. To preheat your air fryer, simply set the temperature to the required cooking temperature and let it run for a few minutes.

Tip #2: Use Cornflakes for a Crispier Coating

Air fryer Southern fried chicken recipes often call for a coating made with a mixture of flour and spices. While this mixture is tasty, you can make your chicken even more crispy by using cornflakes. Crush the cornflakes into fine crumbs and mix them with the flour and spices. This will give your chicken a crunchy texture that is hard to beat. Another benefit of using cornflakes is that they are gluten-free, making them ideal for people who are sensitive to gluten.

Tip #3: Use Buttermilk to Tenderize the Chicken

Buttermilk is a traditional ingredient used in Southern fried chicken recipes. It not only adds flavor to your chicken, but it also helps to tenderize the meat. To use buttermilk in your air fryer Southern fried chicken recipe, simply marinate your chicken in the buttermilk mixture for several hours before cooking. This will result in a chicken that is juicy and tender.

Tip #4: Brush the Chicken with Oil

One of the challenges of making air fryer Southern fried chicken is getting the coating to stick to the chicken. To help with this, you can brush your chicken with a small amount of oil before cooking. This will help the coating to adhere to the chicken and give it a crispy texture.

Tip #5: Flip the Chicken During Cooking

To ensure that your air fryer Southern fried chicken cooks evenly, it is important to flip it over halfway through the cooking time. This ensures that both sides of the chicken get crispy and golden brown. Use tongs to flip the chicken gently to avoid damaging the coating.

Tip #6: Use Parchment Paper to Prevent Sticking

Sometimes the coating on air fryer Southern fried chicken can stick to the basket of the air fryer, making it difficult to remove the chicken. To prevent this from happening, you can place a piece of parchment paper on the bottom of the basket before adding your chicken. This will help to prevent the chicken from sticking and make it easier to remove from the basket.

Tip #7: Serve with Your Favorite Accompaniments

Air fryer Southern fried chicken can be served with a variety of accompaniments. Some popular choices include mashed potatoes, biscuits, coleslaw, and macaroni and cheese. You can also serve your chicken with hot sauce, honey mustard, or barbecue sauce for dipping.

Conclusion

In conclusion, making air fryer Southern fried chicken is a delicious and healthier alternative to traditional deep-fried chicken. By following these valuable tips, you can ensure that your chicken is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Try experimenting with different coatings and seasonings to find your favorite air fryer Southern fried chicken recipe. Enjoy!
