AIR FRYER FRIED CHICKEN

Air Fryer Fried Chicken image

Making fried chicken in an air fryer is a revelation. You can achieve a crispy crust and juicy interior without all the steps of deep-frying. A soak in seasoned buttermilk adds extra flavor-as little as 1 hour will make a difference, but overnight is even better. Because of the capacity of a standard air fryer, we cook the chicken in batches. You can rewarm the first batch in a 250-degree oven for 10 minutes if you'd like to serve it all hot at once.

Time 3h15m

Yield 4 to 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 10

3 cups buttermilk
6 garlic cloves, crushed and peeled
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
6 bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs (about 2 pounds)
6 chicken drumsticks (about 2 pounds)
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons paprika
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
Olive oil cooking spray

Steps:

  • Combine the buttermilk, garlic, 1 tablespoon salt and 2 teaspoons pepper in a large resealable plastic bag or container. Add the chicken pieces, seal and refrigerate at least 1 hour and up to overnight, turning the bag once or twice.
  • When you are ready to cook the chicken, combine the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, 1 tablespoon salt and 1 teaspoon pepper in a shallow bowl or dish. Stir well with a fork to combine. Drizzle 2 to 3 tablespoons of the buttermilk mixture from the bag over the flour and toss well to create small lumps throughout.
  • Remove the chicken from the marinade. Spray the basket of a 3.5-quart air fryer with olive oil cooking spray and preheat to 360 degrees F.
  • Dredge 3 thighs and 3 drumsticks in the flour mixture, shaking off the excess. Place the pieces in the preheated air-fryer basket, skin-side up without touching. Spray the chicken generously with the cooking spray and air fry until the chicken is cooked through and the crust is crisp and deep golden, about 27 minutes. Check on the chicken halfway through to spray any spots that still look floury with more cooking spray and flip the drumsticks only.
  • When the chicken is done, remove it from the air fryer and season lightly with salt. Repeat the dredging and air-frying process with the remaining chicken. if you like, rewarm the first batch in an oven at 250 degrees F for 10 minutes before serving.

LISA'S AIR FRYER FRIED CHICKEN

Lisa's Air Fryer Fried Chicken image

Air fryers have come a long way. This air fryer recipe is a great guilt-free way to enjoy fried chicken without the frying. It does not taste exactly like traditional fried chicken, but it's quite tasty. It went fast in the Test Kitchen. The seasoning on the fried chicken is fantastic. We think your family will love this air...

WHAT YOU NEED
chicken thighs and drumsticks (as many as you need to feed your family, I did up 12 pieces)
3 bowls for flour and 1 for the eggs
3 c all-purpose flour
2 tsp seasoning salt
2 tsp garlic (I used granulated garlic)
2 tsp paprika
1 tsp dried basil
1 tsp La Grille barbecue chicken spice
pepper and salt
2 eggs beaten with about 1/4 cup milk

Steps:

  • 1. In one bow,l add 1 cup flour and season with salt and pepper. In another bowl beat the eggs and add milk, in your 3rd bowl add the remaining 2 cups flour, and all the seasons and mix well.
  • 2. Coat your chicken first in the flour and salt and pepper mixture, then in the eggs, and then in the 2 cup flour mixture. Set them on a plate. Continue to do this until all chicken is coated.
  • 3. Add chicken pieces to the air fryer basket. Lightly spritz with Pam or I use an oil spritzer. I did overlap my chicken and you can, just make sure you do turn the chicken and rearrange them 2 times during the cooking process.
  • 4. Press the Power Button & adjust cooking time to 35 minutes at 360 degrees. Keep in mind that I cooked 12 pieces of chicken so your time might be less if you have less chicken.
  • 5. If you don't have an air fryer, I highly recommend you get one. They are so much healthier for you than frying foods or using a deep fryer. The chicken turned out amazing - juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside.

AIR FRYER ESSENTIALS: AWESOME FRIED CHICKEN

Air Fryer Essentials: Awesome Fried Chicken image

Made this up the other day. And, tried a new kind of marinade (new to me), with a tasty mingling of flour and spices. The end result came out juicy, with an awesome crispy exterior. The buttermilk and hot sauce marinade gave it a perfect "Southern" tang, with just a hint of vinegary heat. So yummy. So, you ready... Let's...

Provided by Andy Anderson !

Categories     Chicken

Time 45m

Number Of Ingredients 15

PLAN/PURCHASE
chicken breasts or thighs, bone-in, skin-on
1/2 c buttermilk
2 - 3` Tbsp hot sauce, i prefer frank's
1 - 2 dash(es) tabasco sauce (optional)
COATING ITEMS
3/4 c flour, all-purpose variety
2 tsp lemon/pepper seasoning
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp parsley flakes
1/2 tsp dried oregano
1 pinch cayenne pepper
ADDITIONAL ITEMS
oil for spraying

Steps:

  • 1. PREP/PREPARE
  • 2. You will need an air fryer or a convection oven to make this recipe. In addition, an oil bottle, for spraying, would be good to have. In fact, it would be really good to have.
  • 3. I took three bone-in, skin-on chicken breasts, and put them in three marinades. The first I cooked up after 2 hours, the second after 24 hours, and the third, after 48 hours. The 2-hour marinade was okay but lacked much flavor. The 24- and 48-hour marinades came out tasting the same... lots of good buttermilk flavor with just a hint of heat. Conclusion: In terms of time, 24 hours is the sweet spot for the marinade.
  • 4. Gather your ingredients (mise en place).
  • 5. Place the chicken in Ziploc bag, or non-reactive dish, along with the buttermilk, and hot sauce (optional tabasco).
  • 6. Cover and place in the fridge for 24 hours, or as long as you can afford.
  • 7. Preheat your air fryer to 350f (175c).
  • 8. After the allotted time mix the coating ingredients in a shallow dish, remove a chicken piece from the marinade, and thoroughly coat with the flour/spice mixture. Repeat for as many pieces you can comfortably place into the basket of your air fryer.
  • 9. Chef's Note: Do not overlap or crowd the basket. Each piece needs a bit of space.
  • 10. Place into the preheated air fryer, and use the following method: 1. Cook for fifteen minutes. 2. Open the basket and spray the chicken with a light oil, until you do not see any dry spots. 3. Continue to cook for fifteen minutes. 4. Open the fryer and take the chicken's temperature. -- Chicken is fully cooked at 165f (75c). 5. Continue to cook, checking every few minutes, until the chicken is about 5 - 7 degrees from being done. 6. Crank the heat up to 400f (205), for about 3 - 4 minutes. This will crisp up the skin. 7. Remove from air fryer, and allow to rest, before serving.
  • 11. PLATE/PRESENT
  • 12. Carve, and serve with sides of your choice. Enjoy.
  • 13. Keep the faith, and keep cooking.

Air fryer fried chicken recipes are the latest trend in the world of cooking. Air fryers are becoming popular for many reasons, but one of the most significant is that they can create dishes that taste like they have been fried, without the added oil and fat. Fried chicken is one of the most beloved dishes in many households across the world, but it can be unhealthy due to the amounts of oil used in the frying process. This is where an air fryer comes in handy. Air fryer fried chicken recipes offer a healthier alternative that still packs the same delicious flavor and texture.

Why use an air fryer for fried chicken?

Fried chicken is typically cooked in a deep fryer or a pan with oil, which adds an abundance of calories to the dish. When using an air fryer, you can still achieve the crispiness and texture of fried chicken without all the extra calories from oil. Air fryers work by circulating hot air around the food, cooking it evenly and giving it a crispy texture. This is ideal for fried chicken because it creates a crispy outer layer without too much oil.

Ingredients for air fryer fried chicken recipes

Before getting into specifics on recipes, it's important to know what ingredients are essential to make air fryer fried chicken. The ingredients are quite similar to traditional fried chicken, with some small changes to ensure that the air fryer works efficiently. Here are some basic ingredients:

  • Chicken pieces (breast, thighs, wings, drumsticks)
  • Flour or breadcrumbs for coating
  • Egg for binding
  • Seasonings (salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder)
  • Olive oil spray

Air fryer fried chicken is a delicious and healthy alternative to traditional fried chicken. With an air fryer, you can enjoy the crispy texture and savory flavor of fried chicken without the added fat and calories. However, not all air fryer fried chicken recipes are created equal. In this article, we will provide you with valuable tips to ensure that your air fryer fried chicken is not only healthy but also mouthwatering and delicious.

1. Choose the right chicken

The first tip for making excellent air fryer fried chicken is to choose the right chicken. When purchasing chicken, it is important to choose chicken that is fresh and has not been frozen. Fresh chicken will result in better texture and flavor than frozen chicken. Additionally, it is recommended to use chicken pieces with the skin on as they will turn out more crisply.

2. Use the right breading

The next tip for making excellent air fryer fried chicken is to use the right breading. The breading is what gives the chicken its crispy exterior, so it is important to choose the right ingredients. Instead of traditional flour-based breading, consider using almond flour, coconut flour, or a mixture of the two. Not only are these options gluten-free, but they are also higher in protein and lower in carbs.
2.1. Cornstarch
If you want an ultra-crispy coating for your air fryer fried chicken, you might also consider using cornstarch. Cornstarch is excellent for creating a crispy exterior, and it can be combined with flour or other types of breading to get the perfect combination. Some air fryer fried chicken recipes will incorporate cornstarch in their breading.
2.2. Seasonings
In addition to the flour or flour alternative, it is important to add seasoning to the breading mixture. Whether you prefer simple salt and pepper, garlic powder, or a mixture of spices, seasoning the breading mixture is an essential step in creating flavor in air fryer fried chicken.

3. Use egg wash to keep the breading intact

To ensure that the breading stays on the chicken and doesn't fall off during cooking, it is crucial to use an egg wash. An egg wash is simply a mixture of beaten eggs and a liquid such as water or milk. Dip each piece of chicken into the egg wash before dredging it in the breading mixture.

4. Preheat the air fryer to the right temperature

It is essential to preheat the air fryer to the right temperature, as this ensures that the chicken is cooked evenly and achieves the perfect level of crispness. The recommended temperature for air frying chicken is between 375°F and 400°F. Preheat the air fryer for 5-10 minutes before adding the chicken.

5. Don't overcrowd the air fryer basket

It is important not to overcrowd the air fryer basket when cooking chicken. Overcrowding can lead to uneven cooking and prevent the chicken from reaching the desired level of crispiness. It is recommended to cook chicken in batches if necessary.

6. Use an oil mister

Because air fryers don't require much oil to cook foods, it is important to use an oil mister rather than pouring oil directly onto the chicken. An oil mister will evenly distribute the oil and ensure that the chicken does not become greasy or oily.

7. Flip the chicken halfway through cooking

To ensure that the chicken cooks evenly on all sides, it is important to flip the chicken halfway through cooking. This ensures that both sides of the chicken achieve the perfect level of crispy texture.

8. Use a meat thermometer to ensure the chicken is cooked through

Finally, it is essential to use a meat thermometer to ensure that the chicken is cooked through. The internal temperature of the chicken should reach 165°F to be considered safe to eat. Using a meat thermometer will ensure that the chicken is not overcooked or undercooked.

Conclusion

Air fryer fried chicken is a healthier alternative to traditional fried chicken, but making the perfect batch requires attention to detail. By following the tips outlined in this article, you can ensure that your air fryer fried chicken is crispy, flavorful, and healthy. With the right ingredients and cooking techniques, you can enjoy delicious fried chicken without the guilt.
