AIR FRYER CHICKEN WINGS

Air Fryer Chicken Wings image

Skip the deep-fryer and forget soggy oven chicken wings. The air fryer offers the best of both worlds for crispy wings without extra fat!

Provided by Food Network Kitchen

Categories     appetizer

Time 40m

Yield 2 to 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 6

Nonstick cooking spray, for the basket
2 pounds chicken wings, split at the joint and tips removed
Kosher salt
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/2 cup hot sauce, such as Frank's RedHot
Ranch or blue cheese dressing, for serving

Steps:

  • Spray the basket of a 3.5-quart air fryer with cooking spray and set aside. Pat the chicken wings dry and sprinkle generously with salt. Place the wings in the fryer basket so they are not touching (if necessary to fit, line up the drumettes standing upright along the sides). Set the air fryer to 360 degrees F and cook for 12 minutes, then flip the wings with tongs and cook for 12 minutes more. Flip the wings again, increase the heat to 390 degrees F and cook until the outsides are extra-crispy, about 6 minutes more.
  • Meanwhile, warm the butter in a microwave-safe bowl in the microwave until melted, about 1 minute. Whisk in the hot sauce.
  • Toss the wings with the butter mixture to coat in a large bowl and serve with dressing on the side.

AIR FRYER CHICKEN WINGS WITH SOY GLAZE

Air Fryer Chicken Wings with Soy Glaze image

While fried chicken wings are one of my favorites, you can also achieve the same bite without frying them. An air fryer produces wings that taste just as good and have almost no added oil. One of my favorite tricks is to use the marinade as the basting liquid. It helps reduce waste and gives such good flavor. If you don't have an air fryer you can bake the wings in the oven. Follow the same instructions, but check the wings periodically-you may need to cook them a tad longer.

Provided by Ming Tsai

Categories     appetizer

Time 1h35m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 tablespoon sambal
1/2 cup soy sauce
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons minced fresh ginger
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1 bunch scallions, thinly sliced
1 pound chicken wings
3 tablespoons rice vinegar
2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds

Steps:

  • Mix together the sambal, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, sesame oil, scallion whites and half of the scallion greens (reserve the remaining greens for garnish) together in a medium bowl. Add the wings and marinate in the refrigerator for at least an hour.
  • Preheat an air fryer to 380 degrees F. Remove the chicken wings from marinade, and place wings in the air fryer basket. Pour the marinade into a saucepan and set aside. Cook the wings for 22 minutes.
  • While the wings are cooking, add the rice vinegar to the marinade and bring the liquid to a boil over medium heat. Boil for 2 minutes, then reduce the heat so the sauce stays warm.
  • Once the wings have cooked for 22 minutes, remove the basket from the frying and brush some of the marinade on the wings making sure to coat them well. Place the basket back in the air fryer, increase the heat to 400 degrees F and cook until they are golden brown and delicious, about 3 minutes, keeping an eye out so they don't burn.
  • Place the wings on a serving platter and spoon any remaining marinade over the wings. Garnish with scallion greens and the sesame seeds and serve.

AIR-FRYER SPICY CHICKEN WINGS

Air-Fryer Spicy Chicken Wings image

Chicken wings turn out perfectly when they're cooked in an air fryer. Here, they are tossed with a bit of baking powder before frying, which yields a particularly crunchy, browned skin with a rough, craggy texture. It's a technique based on one from Ben Mims's cookbook, "Air Fry Every Day" (Clarkson Potter, 2018), which he learned from J. Kenji López-Alt from Serious Eats. After frying, the wings are tossed with a honey and chile-based sauce spiked with fresh lemon juice and zest. Sticky, fiery and impossible to stop eating, they are an easier, leaner version of deep-fried chicken wings, made without the mess.

Categories     finger foods, poultry, appetizer, main course

Time 25m

Yield 3 to 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 1/4 pound chicken wings, cut in half through the joint into wingettes and drumettes
1 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 tablespoon melted unsalted butter
1 teaspoon finely grated lemon zest
1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon honey, preferably dark
1/2 teaspoon Tabasco sauce
1/4 teaspoon Sriracha or other Asian chile sauce

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, toss chicken with baking powder, salt and pepper until the pieces are thoroughly coated. Spread the pieces out on a rack placed on a rimmed baking sheet and refrigerate, uncovered, for at least 1 hour and up to overnight. (The longer, the better.)
  • Heat the air fryer to 400 degrees, if preheating is necessary.
  • Arrange chicken on air fryer rack so all of the pieces are standing up against the edges of the basket, with as much space around each one as possible. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 20 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, in a large bowl, whisk together butter, lemon zest and juice, honey, Tabasco and sriracha.
  • Immediately transfer the fried chicken wings to the bowl with the honey-chile sauce and toss well. Serve at once.

Before seasoning, patting your chicken wings dry and allow them to come to room temperature. This will help the seasoning to stick better to the wings, and they will cook more evenly.

Tip #2: Use Baking Powder to Achieve Cripsy Chicken Wings

When preparing air fryer chicken wings, using baking powder can help you achieve crispy wings that you typically find in a traditional deep-fried recipe. Baking powder is an essential ingredient that makes your chicken wings crispy and golden brown. Toss your wings in a mixture of baking powder, salt, and any other seasoning of your choice. The baking powder absorbs any moisture from the chicken wings, creating a dry surface that crisps up perfectly in the air fryer.

Tip #3: Preheat the Air Fryer

To get the best results, it is essential to preheat the air fryer before you start cooking your chicken wings. Preheating allows the air fryer to heat up to the desired temperature, ensuring that the chicken wings cook evenly and to perfection. Set the air fryer to the desired temperature and let it preheat for about 5-10 minutes before adding your chicken wings. Preheating can help you save time and ensure that your chicken wings are cooked well.

Tip #4: Avoid Crowding Your Air Fryer Basket

When cooking chicken wings in an air fryer, it's crucial to avoid overcrowding the basket. Crowding the basket can prevent even air circulation and may result in uneven cooking. Therefore, it is best to cook your chicken wings in small batches. This will ensure that each wing is cooked to perfection, giving you delicious, crispy wings that are evenly cooked.

Tip #5: Flip Your Chicken Wings

Flipping your chicken wings during air frying helps ensure that every side is cooked evenly. Use tongs to flip your chicken wings every few minutes to brown them on both sides. It's best to avoid over-flipping your wings, as this may cause them to break apart or cook unevenly. Flip each wing just once or twice during cooking to ensure even browning.

Tip #6: Experiment with Different Sauces and Dips

One of the most exciting aspects of making air fryer chicken wings is experimenting with different sauce and dip options. You can try a variety of sauces, including buffalo, barbecue, honey mustard, garlic parmesan, or any other sauce that suits your taste. Dipping sauces can also elevate the flavor of your air fryer chicken wings. Some common dipping sauces include ranch, blue cheese, or sour cream.

Tip #7: Let Your Chicken Wings Cool Before Serving

Before serving your chicken wings, consider letting them cool down for a minute or two. This will help the coating stay crispier for longer and prevent burning your mouth from hot sauce or temperature.
