This is a white sauce with a definitely Northern feel. The Worcestershire gives it a little zing and the white wine adds some depth. This could easily be a "company" dinner if it was made with beef tips

1 lb hamburger
3 tablespoons dried onion flakes
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup white wine
1 (10 1/2 ounce) can cream soup (chicken, mushroom etc)
1 1/2 cups milk
1 lb spaghetti

Steps:

  • Brown the hamburger with onion and garlic; drain.
  • add the white wine and Worcestershire sauce let the meat soak up the liquids.
  • add the soup and the milk and allow to simmer while you cook the pasta adding more milk as needed to achieve the constancy desired.
  • drain noodles and toss with sauce and serve immediately.
  • I think mushrooms would be a nice addition, but my dh won't eat them.
  • This serves well with asparagus or green beans.

1 6 oz pkg chocolate chips
1 6 oz pkg butterscotch chips
2 3 oz cans chow mien noodles
1/2 cup chopped peanuts

Steps:

  • Melt chocolate and butterscotch chips on top of double boiler. Remove from heat. Quickly stir in all noodles and peanuts 'til evenly coated. Drop by teaspoon onto waxed paper. Chill. Makes 3 dozen.

8 ounces wide egg noodles
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 small onion, minced
1 1/2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1.5 (12 ounce) cans evaporated skim milk
1/4 cup cream sherry
1 (14 1/2 ounce) can stewed tomatoes
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
salt & freshly ground black pepper
2 1/2 cups shredded cooked turkey
1 (13 3/4 ounce) can artichoke hearts, drained and sliced thinly
2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F and butter a 2 1/2- to 3-quart casserole dish.
  • Cook the noodles in a large pot of boiling salted water just until al dente and drain in a colander.
  • Meanwhile, melt the butter over medium-high heat in a medium-size saucepan.
  • Add the onion and saute until softened, about 5 minutes.
  • Sprinkle with the flour and continue cooking, stirring constantly, for a minute more.
  • Gradually pour in the evaporated milk and sherry and stir until smooth.
  • Continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens, 5 to 7 minutes more.
  • Stir in the can of stewed tomatoes and then season the sauce to taste with cayenne, salt and pepper.
  • Stir the sauce and noodles together in a large mixing bowl.
  • Gently fold the turkey, artichoke hearts and 1 cup of the cheese into the noodle mixture.
  • Turn into the prepared casserole dish.
  • Sprinkle the remaining cup of cheese over the top of the casserole.
  • Bake the casserole until bubbling and lightly browned on top, 35 to 45 minutes.

1 cup chopped onion
1 garlic clove, minced
1 cup celery, diced
1/2 cup green pepper, diced
2 cups uncooked macaroni
2 (8 ounce) cans tomato sauce
1 cup water
1/4 cup parsley, snipped
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 1/2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
grated American cheese

Steps:

  • Brown meat in skillet. Remove meat from skillet and cook onion, garlic, celery, green pepper, and macaroni in meat drippings until macaroni is golden. Return meat to skillet along with tomato sauce, water, parsley, salt, pepper, and worcestershire sauce. Cover and simmer 25 minutes or until macaroni is cooked to your taste. 1 box of Enjoy Life ® Snickerdoodle cookies (or Lively Lemon, if available)
½ cup sorghum flour
1 tsp tapioca flour
½ tsp xanthan gum
filling:
8 oz cream cheese (dairy, soy or rice-based, diet permitting)
¼ cup egg substitute
1 tsp vanilla
1/3 cup sugar or evaporated cane juice crystals
fruit topping:
fresh blueberries, strawberries and/or raspberries

Steps:

  • crust: Mix tapioca flour and xanthan gum with sorghum flour. Chop cookies in food processor and add to the mix. Lightly grease 8x8" pan with vegetable spray and add the cookie mixture. Press firmly in bottom of the pan. Bake at 350 F for 12 minutes or until lightly browned. filling: While crust is baking, prepare filling. Blend the cream cheese or cream cheese substitute, egg substitute, vanilla, and sugar until smooth. Cover and set in refrigerator until crust is ready. When crust is done, remove from oven and spoon the filling evenly on top of crust. Return to oven and bake 20 -25 minutes or until center is almost set. Let it cool.
