WALNUT PIE BARS

Walnut Pie Bars image

This recipe is a riff on a FB post on Pecan Pie Bars. Instead of using crescent roll pastry, I used pie pastry. I changed out pecans for walnuts, since that's what I had on hand. I also toyed with some of the ingredients. Surprise! They are a hit with the family! I hope you like them, too. =^..^=

Time 40m

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 pie pastry
1 c chopped walnuts
1 Tbsp butter or margarine
1/2 c sugar
1/2 c light corn syrup, like karo
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 egg

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Mist a pizza pan or a cookie sheet with cooking spray. Place the pastry in the middle of the pizza pan and, using a rolling pin, roll a few times in an outward direction to stretch the crust a little. Fold over the edges. Bake for 8 minutes, then remove the pan from the oven. The crust will still be light, but it's OK!
  • 2. While the crust bakes, chop the walnuts & set aside. Melt butter in a medium glass measuring cup or microwave-safe bowl for about 20 seconds. Add sugar, corn syrup, vanilla, and egg to the melted butter. Stir in the chopped walnuts. Whisk together well.
  • 3. When the crust comes out of the oven, pour the nut mixture over the crust and even out. The folded edges should keep the mixture on the crust. Bake for about 15 MORE minutes, or until the nut mixture is bubbly and golden brown.
  • 4. Remove from oven and cool for about 15 minutes, then cut into 16 pieces (or more) with a pizza cutter. I actually also cut off the crust folds, but that's up to you. Continue cooling or eat warm, if you can't wait. =^..^=
