2 ½ cups unsweetened and full fat almond or coconut milk
1 stick cinnamon or 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (more as garnish at the end)
2 inches fresh turmeric (sliced or 1 ½ teaspoon ground turmeric spice)
1 inch fresh ginger (sliced or ½ teaspoon ground ginger)
1 tablespoon coconut oil
Pinch of black pepper
1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey (or more to taste)

Steps:

  • Place milk, cinnamon stick, turmeric, ginger, coconut oil, and black pepper in a small saucepan.
  • Cook, stirring frequently, until warm but not boiling.
  • Give it a taste and add in your sweetener.
  • If you used fresh turmeric and ginger, strain it to your cups. If not, divide it in two mugs.
  • If preferred, sprinkle with ground cinnamon. Serve.

1 inch piece fresh turmeric, peeled and finely grated or minced (about 1 1/2 teaspoons)
1 inch piece fresh ginger, peeled, and finely grated or minced (about 1 teaspoon)
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, plus extra for garnish
3 to 4 whole black peppercorns
Pinch cardamom (optional)
1 to 2 teaspoons raw honey, or more to taste, (optional)

Steps:

  • Gather the ingredients.
  • In a small saucepan, combine the milk (or non-dairy milk alternative ), turmeric, ginger, vanilla, 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, peppercorns, and cardamom (if using). Set over medium-high heat and bring just to boiling. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer gently for 10 minutes, or until the milk is a golden color and has a lightly spiced flavor.
  • Remove from the heat and pour the golden milk through a fine mesh strainer into 2 mugs. Sweeten to taste with honey and dust with cinnamon if desired. Serve hot.

½ cup water
¼ cup ground turmeric
½ teaspoon ground black pepper
1 teaspoon water, or as needed
2 cups almond milk
1 teaspoon extra-virgin coconut oil
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon raw honey

Steps:

  • Combine 1/2 cup water, turmeric, and pepper in a small saucepan over low heat. Cook, stirring constantly, until thickened, 7 to 9 minutes. Stir in 1 teaspoon water. Continue cooking until thickened into a paste, 7 to 9 minutes. Cool completely, 15 to 20 minutes. Pour into an airtight glass jar.
