No Fail, Sour Cream Pie Crust image

It's the easiest, flakiest homemade pie crust EVER! No machine required for this longtime reader favorite, a buttery pie and pastry crust recipe anyone can make.

2 cups (280 g) all purpose flour
1 teaspoon of salt (skip if using salted butter)
2 teaspoons of sugar (for sweet recipes, otherwise skip)
2 sticks unsalted butter (1 cup, 8 ounces, 225 g) cubed
1/2 cup (115 ml) sour cream (full fat, NOT light sour cream)

Steps:

  • Cut butter into cubes and let sit for a couple minutes: Cut the butter into cubes and let it sit on the counter to take the chill off (don't soften the butter, just let it sit out for couple minutes when you take it out of the fridge).

Number Of Ingredients 8

3 cups all-purpose flour, divided
1/4 cup sugar
1 package (1/4 ounce) quick-rise yeast
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/4 cup water
1 egg

Steps:

  • In a bowl, combine 2 cups flour, sugar, yeast and salt. In a saucepan, heat milk, butter and water to 120°-130°. Add to dry ingredients; beat just until moistened. Add egg and remaining flour; beat until smooth. Shape into a ball. Do not knead. Cover and let rest for 10 minutes. Use for Braided Coffee Cake or Coffee Cake Ring.
