1 pound ground beef
1/2 cup chopped celery
1/3 cup chopped onion
2 tablespoons chopped green pepper
1 cup ketchup
1/2 cup chili sauce
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon cider vinegar
2 teaspoons ground mustard
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
6 hamburger buns, split

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, cook the beef, celery, onion and green pepper over medium heat until meat is no longer pink and vegetables are tender; drain. , Stir in the ketchup, chili sauce, sugars, vinegar, mustard, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, for 15 minutes. Serve on buns.

1 pound ground beef
1 cup finely chopped onion
3/4 cup finely chopped sweet red or green pepper
1/4 cup finely chopped celery
1/2 cup ketchup
1 tablespoon white vinegar
2 teaspoons chili powder
1-1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
6 hamburger buns, split

Steps:

  • In a large cast-iron or other heavy skillet, cook beef, onion, red pepper and celery over medium heat until meat is no longer pink and vegetables are crisp-tender; drain., In a small bowl, combine the ketchup, vinegar, chili powder, Worcestershire sauce, sugar and salt; stir into beef mixture. Simmer, uncovered, for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Serve on buns.

These American-style sandwiches make a good family favourite- filled with cumin and paprika spiced turkey mince and crunchy slaw

Number Of Ingredients 14

1 tbsp olive oil
2 small red onions , chopped
2 garlic cloves , chopped
500g turkey mince
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp hot smoked paprika
2 tbsp soft brown sugar
125ml cider vinegar , plus 1 tbsp
500ml passata
75ml low-fat mayonnaise
1 tbsp golden caster sugar
ΒΌ head celeriac , peeled and grated
2 carrots , grated
6 small soft buns

Steps:

  • Heat the oil in a large frying pan. Add half the onions, the garlic and some seasoning, and cook for 5 mins. Add the mince and cook until thoroughly browned. Add the cumin, paprika, brown sugar and the 125ml vinegar, and cook for 5 mins more. Pour in the passata and cook for another 10 mins. Set aside and keep warm.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the 1 tbsp vinegar, the mayo, a little seasoning and the caster sugar. Add the celeriac, carrots and remaining onions, and mix well. Serve the mince mixture on the buns and top with the celeriac slaw.

1 lb ground beef
1 small white onion, chopped
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
1/4 cup ketchup
1 tablespoon brown sugar
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 orange, juice of (about 1/4 cup)
1/2 tablespoon cider vinegar
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper (or to taste)

Steps:

  • In a large skillet brown ground beef and onion over medium heat.
  • Drain off excess fat.
  • Stir in the remaining ingredients until well blended.
  • Cover and simmer over low heat for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Serve hot on your favorite buns or bread.

1 cup diced onion
1 tablespoon tomato paste
1 can (14.5 ounces) whole peeled tomatoes, pureed
2 tablespoons dark-brown sugar
2 tablespoons apple-cider vinegar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
2 cups shredded Wine-Braised Brisket
Toasted buns, for serving
Thinly sliced red onion, for serving
Fresh cilantro leaves, for serving

Steps:

  • In a skillet, heat oil over medium. Add onion and cook until softened, 3 to 4 minutes. Add tomato paste; stir 1 minute. Add pureed tomatoes, sugar, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and 1 cup water. Simmer 10 minutes. Add brisket; toss to heat through. Serve on toasted buns, with sliced red onion and cilantro.
