When Dawn Onuffer, Crestview, Florida, declares, "The buffet is open," guests make a beeline for the meatballs. "The combination of lean turkey, sausage, chili sauce and preserves is scrumptious!"

Number Of Ingredients 12

2 eggs, lightly beaten
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons plus 1 cup chili sauce, divided
1 cup soft whole wheat bread crumbs
2 tablespoons dried minced onion
1 teaspoon dried oregano
3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 pound lean ground turkey
1 pound Italian turkey sausage links, casings removed
1/2 cup reduced-sugar apricot preserves

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine the eggs, Worcestershire sauce and 2 tablespoons chili sauce. Stir in the bread crumbs, onion, oregano, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Crumble turkey and sausage over mixture and mix well. Shape into 1-in. balls. , Place on a rack coated with cooking spray in a shallow baking pan. Bake at 375° for 15-20 minutes or until meat is no longer pink. , In a large bowl, combine apricot preserves and remaining chili sauce. Add meatballs and toss gently. Place in a 15x10x1-in. baking pan coated with cooking spray. Bake 5-10 minutes longer or until glazed, stirring every 3 minutes.

I found this recipe on Taste of Home and tweaked it a bit to fit the tastes of my famiy. My co-workers loved them as well.

2 eggs, lightly beaten
2 Tbsp worcestershire sauce
2 Tbsp a-1 steak sauce,regular
1 c plus 2 tablespoons, chili sauce, divided
3/4 c soft whole wheat bread crumbs
1/4 c dry oatmeal (quick cooking kind)
2 Tbsp onion, chopped
3/4 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1/2 c shredded monterey-jack cheese
1 lb lean ground turkey or beef
1 lb italian turkey sausage links, casings removed (if using the beef above, omit this and add 1 pound of ground beef)
1/2 c reduced-sugar apricot preserves

Steps:

  • 1. In a large bowl, combine the eggs, Worcestershire sauce, A-1 Steak sauce and 2 tablespoons chili sauce.
  • 2. Stir in the bread crumbs, oatmeal, onion, garlic powder, salt and pepper.
  • 3. Add cheese and crumble turkey and sausage (or beef) over mixture and mix well. Shape into 1-in. balls
  • 4. Place on a cookie sheet coated with cooking spray. Bake at 375° for 15-20 minutes or until meat is no longer pink.
  • 5. In a large bowl, combine apricot preserves and the 1 cup of remaining chili sauce. Add meatballs and toss gently.
  • 6. Place in a 15-in. x 10-in. x 1-in. baking pan coated with cooking spray. Bake 5-10 minutes longer or until glazed, stirring every 3 minutes.

Number Of Ingredients 9

8 slices bacon
2 slightly beaten eggs
½ cup fine dry bread crumbs
½ cup finely chopped onion
3 cloves garlic, minced
¼ tsp salt
2 pounds lean ground pork (or ground beef)
½ of a 16 oz can or one 8 oz can jellied cranberry sauce (1 cup)
1 cup bottled barbecue sauce

Steps:

  • 1. In a 12-inch skillet, cook bacon until crisp. Drain on paper towels; crumble bacon and set aside. Drain off all but 1 tablespoon of the bacon drippings; set skillet aside. 2. For meatballs, in a large bowl combine crumbled bacon, eggs, bread crumbs, onion, garlic and salt. Add ground pork; mix well. Shape into 36 meatballs (each about 1 ½ inch diameter). 3. Brown meatballs, half at a time, in reserved bacon drippings. Drain meatballs on paper towels. Transfer meatballs to a 3 ½ or 4 quart slow cooker. 4. In a medium bowl combine cranberry sauce and barbecue sauce. Pour over meatballs in slow cooker. Cover and cook on low setting for 5 to 6 hours or on high-heat setting for 2 ½ to 3 hours.
