This made-for-Halloween sangria is elegant and eerie all in one sip. Sparkling apple cider, dry white wine, and pear-flavored brandy are combined in one big punch bowl. Go bobbing for the pink lady apples and green grapes that float in the boozy beverage.

5 lady apples
1 bunch (about 8 ounces) green seedless grapes
1 bunch (about 8 ounces) red seedless grapes
2 bottles dry white wine, chilled
2 cups sparkling apple cider, chilled
6 tablespoons poire William (pear-flavored eau-de-vie)

Steps:

  • Put apples and grapes into an ice-filled punch bowl. Pour in wine, cider, and poire William. Gently stir.

2 (750 milliliter) bottles Rioja (Spanish red wine)
1 cup brandy
1 bag frozen cherries
1 bag frozen peaches
1 orange, sliced
2 cinnamon sticks
1 cup simple syrup, recipe follows
Orange peel, for garnish
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
1 orange, zested

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients in a slow cooker. Put setting on HIGH for 1 hour. Reduce to warm to hold temperature. Ladle into glasses from slow cooker. Be sure to include some fruit in the glasses. Garnish with orange peel.
  • Combine the sugar, water and zest in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, reduce to a simmer. Stirring occasionally, simmer for 5 minutes or until sugar is dissolved.

Embrace balmy summer days with a jug of sangria. With red wine, Spanish brandy, sparkling water, cinnamon and chopped fruit, it's a lovely sharing cocktail

2 oranges , chopped
2 pears , chopped
2 lemons , 1 chopped, 1 juiced
200g red berries , chopped (we used strawberries and cherries)
3 tbsp caster sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
ice
750ml bottle light red wine
100ml Spanish brandy
300ml sparkling water

Steps:

  • Put the chopped fruit in a bowl and sprinkle over the sugar and cinnamon, then stir to coat. Cover and leave to macerate in the fridge for at least 1 hr, or ideally overnight.
  • Fill a large jug with ice. Stir the macerated fruit mixture to ensure the sugar is dissolved, then tip into the jug with the wine and brandy. Stir, then top up with the sparkling water and serve.
