Refreshing and light, this is an excellent punch to serve when fresh strawberries are in season. You might consider it for a reception as well as a cooler on a sunny summer afternoon.

3 cups fresh strawberries, halved
1/4 cup sugar
1 (7/8 quart) bottle chilled riesling wine or 1 (7/8 quart) bottle chablis
1 cup vermouth (optional)
1 quart grapefruits, flavored soda or 1 quart club soda
ice cube

Steps:

  • Chill all ingredients before mixing them together.
  • Put strawberries into chilled bowl.
  • Sprinkle sugar over, stir until stawberries are evenly coated.
  • Pour wine, vermouth and chilled soda into bowl; add ice cubes.
  • Serve immediately.

handful blueberries
ice cubes
bottle white wine , such as Chardonnay
sprigs of mint

Steps:

  • Pour the lemonade into a thermos along with a handful blueberries and plenty of ice cubes.
  • At the picnic, stir together in a jug with a bottle of fruity white wine, such as chardonnay, and serve with sprigs of mint.

4 oranges, 2 juiced, 2 halved lengthwise and thinly sliced crosswise
1/3 to 1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup brandy
1 bottle dry red wine, chilled
2 lemons, thinly sliced
2 cups seltzer or club soda
Ice cubes, for serving

Steps:

  • In a large pitcher, combine orange juice, sugar, and brandy; stir well to dissolve sugar. Add wine, orange slices, lemon slices, and seltzer; stir to combine. Fill glasses with ice before serving.
