I make this often, my family loves this as an alternative to pizza, you may use your own favorite pizza sauce in place of the sauce ingredients, I do all the time, have fun using different toppings :)

3 eggs, beaten
2/3 cup flour
3/4 cup milk or 3/4 cup half-and-half cream
2 tablespoons diced onions
1 tablespoon melted butter
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 pinch cayenne pepper (optional)
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1 pinch garlic powder
1/3 cup tomato sauce (can be used if desired instead of above ingredients) or 1/3 cup favorite pizza sauce (can be used if desired instead of above ingredients)
1/2 cup diced pepperoni (OR both combined) or 1/2 cup salami (OR both combined)
1/4 cup diced red bell peppers (OR both) or 1/4 cup green bell pepper (OR both)
1/4-1/2 cup black olives
1/2-1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Steps:

  • Set oven to 375 degrees.
  • Set oven rack to second-lowest position.
  • Grease a 9 x 9-inch baking pan or an 11 x 7-inc pan.
  • In a bowl, whisk together eggs, flour and milk until smooth.
  • Stir in onion, butter, salt and cayenne.
  • Pour mixture into prepared baking pan.
  • In another small bowl, combine oregano, basil, garlic powder and tomato sauce; gently drizzle over the batter, and cut in with a knife to produce a marbled effect. (reserve a couple of tablespoons of sauce for the top of the pizza puff).
  • Sprinkle pepperoni or salami and the bell peppers and whatever else you would like to use such as mushrooms, onions etc over the sauce; dot with a little more sauce over the cheese (this is optional).
  • Top with mozzarella cheese.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Cool 5 minutes before serving.

I made this one up and tried it at one of our parties. They were gone pretty quick. I didn't even get to try one myself. I heard they were pretty good though. You can change the filling and use sausage, mushrooms or whatever you like.

1 package wonton skins
1/2 package pepperoni, chopped (you can use more if you would like)
1 can black olives
1/2 onion, chopped
8 ounces cream cheese
1/2 green pepper
pizza sauce
oil (for deep frying)

Steps:

  • Mix together cream cheese, pepperoni, olives, onionn and green peppers.
  • Put a teaspoon full of mixture on wonton skins and fold, sealing edges with water or egg.
  • Deep fry until hard and golden brown.
  • Serve with pizza sauce.

What's more fun than a pizza puff? Skip the kind sold in the frozen aisle and try this homemade version. You can substitute any meat or vegetable for the pepperoni and any cheese for the mozzarella. -Vivi Taylor, Middleburg, Florida

1 loaf (1 pound) frozen pizza dough, thawed
20 slices pepperoni
8 ounces part-skim mozzarella cheese, cut into 20 cubes
1/4 cup butter
2 small garlic cloves, minced
Dash salt
Marinara sauce, warmed
Optional: Crushed red pepper flakes and grated Parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400°. Shape dough into 1-1/2-in. balls; flatten into 1/8-in. thick circles. Place 1 pepperoni slice and 1 cheese cube in center of each circle; wrap dough around pepperoni and cheese. Pinch edges to seal; shape into a ball. Repeat with remaining dough, cheese and pepperoni. Place seam side down on greased baking sheets; bake until light golden brown, 10-15 minutes. Cool slightly., Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, melt butter over low heat. Add garlic and salt, taking care not to brown butter or garlic; brush over puffs. Serve with marinara sauce; if desired, sprinkle with red pepper flakes and Parmesan., Freeze option: Cover and freeze unbaked pizza puffs on waxed paper-lined baking sheets until firm. Transfer to a freezer container; seal and return to freezer. To use, preheat oven to 325°; bake pizza puffs on greased baking sheets as directed, increasing time as necessary to heat through.
