Spicy Apple and Oat Slice image

An easy slice similar to Apple crisp or Apple crumble. Serve hot with icecream for dessert or cold for afternoon tea! I make this slice with my own apples when they're in season.

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup rolled oats
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup desiccated coconut
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
185 g butter, melted
400 g stewed apples or 1 (400 g) can pie apples
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to moderate 180 degrees c.
  • Grease& line a rectangle slice pan.
  • Place flour, oats, sugar, coconut& cinnamon in a large mixing bowl, stir to combine.
  • Make a well in centre& pour in melted butter.
  • Mix with a wooden spoon until all the ingredients are moist.
  • Firmly press two-thirds of the mixture into the prepared pan.
  • Place the apple on top, smooth it out with a fork or spatula& sprinkle with extra cinnamon.
  • Crumble remaining mixture over apples, press gently onto the apples with your fingers.
  • Bake for 30- 35 minutes until golden& base is crisp.
  • Cool& cut into fingers or squares.

1 1/2 cups plain flour
1 cup rolled oats
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup coconut
1 teaspoon cinnamon
185 g butter, melted
1 (400 g) can pie apples
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to moderate.
  • Grease a shallow 30cm x 20cm tin.
  • Place flour, oats, sugar,coconut and cinnamon in a large bowl.
  • Stir to combine.
  • Make a well in the centre and pour in melted butter.
  • Mix with a wooden spoon until all ingredients are well blended.
  • Firmly press two-thirds of mixture into base of tin.
  • Place the pie apple on top and flatten with a spatula and sprinkle with extra cinnamon.
  • Sprinkle remainder of mixture over top of apple and press down lightly.
  • Bake for 30 minutes or until golden.
  • Cool and cut into fingers.
