Fall is in the air and the holidays just around the corner. Add a welcoming touch of fresh citrus, cinnamon, cloves and bay with this wonderful, simmering spice blend. My favorite!

Time 5m

Number Of Ingredients 6

3-4 cinnamon sticks
4 whole bay leaves
3-4 tb. whole cloves
1/2 orange, sliced in rounds
1/2 lemon, sliced in rounds
4 cups of water

Steps:

  • 1. Place all ingredients in medium saucepan on stove top or in a small (2 qt.) crockpot. Set to a very low simmer. Add water as it evaporates to prevent scorching. At the end of the day, simply place in fridge until morning. ( I prefer the 2 qt. crockpot. They are very inexpensive to pick up at your favorite discount store.)
  • 2. Please feel free to make this your own blend. You can also add fresh cranberries, apple slices, star anise... almost anything. I have a friend who adds a small sprig of evergreen or pine, although I've never tried this. (Use an old pot or a crockpot just for potpourri use if using pine.)

SPICED ORANGE POTPOURRI (NON-FOOD)

Spiced Orange Potpourri (Non-Food) image

Instead of throwing out your orange peels, put them to good use in your crock pot! I love how this mixture of orange peels and spices fills my home with a warm, inviting aroma. Making your own potpourri can't get any easier than this! Even better--it's non-toxic!
