- Heat a small amount of oil in a deep skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ribs, in batches if needed, and brown on all sides. Transfer the ribs to the crock pot. Rinse and drain the sauerkraut. Combine with the onion, apple, dill, and water. Top the ribs with the sauerkraut mixture. Cover the crock pot and cook on low heat for 4-6 hours, or on high heat for 2-3 hours, or until the ribs are tender. Serve the ribs with the sauerkraut, season to taste with salt and pepper.
