Time 1h

Yield 6

Number Of Ingredients 16

1 large onion, cut into 1/4-inch rings
1 cup buttermilk
1 egg
1/3 cup Progresso™ panko crispy bread crumbs
1/3 cup Progresso™ plain bread crumbs
1/3 Corn Chex™ cereal, crushed
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 lb lean (at least 80%) ground beef
1 small onion, chopped (1/4 cup)
1 box Hamburger Helper™ sloppy joe
1 2/3 cups milk
1 1/3 cups hot water
1/4 cup barbecue sauce
1/2 cup frozen corn (from 12-oz bag)
6 to 8 hamburger buns, split

Steps:

  • Place onion rings in medium bowl; pour buttermilk over onions. Let soak 30 minutes.
  • Heat oven to 400°F. Spray cookie sheet with cooking spray. In shallow bowl, beat egg. In another bowl, mix both bread crumbs, the cereal, salt and pepper.
  • Drain onion rings, discarding buttermilk. Dip onion rings in egg, then coat with crumb mixture. Place on cookie sheet. Bake 10 to 13 minutes or until browned.
  • Meanwhile, in 10-inch skillet, cook beef and chopped onion over medium-high heat 5 to 7 minutes, stirring frequently, until beef is thoroughly cooked and onion is tender; drain.
  • Stir in uncooked pasta and sauce mix (from Hamburger Helper box), milk, hot water, barbecue sauce and corn. Heat to boiling, stirring occasionally; reduce heat. Cover; simmer about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until pasta is tender. Remove from heat. Let stand 5 minutes (sauce will thicken as it stands).
  • To serve, spoon sloppy joe mixture onto bun bottoms; top each with 1 or 2 onion rings. Cover with bun tops.

BBQ SLOPPY JOE SLIDERS

BBQ Sloppy Joe Sliders image

For years I just made my Mother's Sloppy Joe recipe. Then one day I decided to try it with some BBQ sauce. My family loved it so well that's the only way they want it fixed. It is super quick and easy to prepare. It goes great with slaw and chips.

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 pound(s) ground round
1/2 cup(s) ketchup
1/2 cup(s) bbq sauce, (i like kc masterpiece, original)
1 - 2 tablespoon(s) prepared mustard
1 teaspoon(s) onion flakes, dehydrated
12 - sliders, or other mini buns

Steps:

  • Brown ground round; drain off any excess fat. (Ground round is so lean there usually isn't any excess fat).
  • Stir in ketchup, BBQ sauce, mustard, and onions. Simmer covered on low heat for 10 minutes. Stir frequently to prevent sticking. If your mixture seems too thick, add a little extra BBQ sauce or a Tablespoon or two of water.
  • Using heaping Tablespoons put the meat on the buns. Optional: If you prefer, you can mayonnaise the buns first; or simply put the mayonnaise out for everyone to add according to their preference).
