Toast to the holiday season with this festive recipe for a Cranberry Champagne Cocktail starring fresh cranberries and orange zest.

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 (12-oz.) bag cranberries
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup Grand Marnier
1 medium orange, zested and juiced
1 (750-ml.) bottle dry champagne or sparkling wine

Steps:

  • In a medium saucepan set over medium heat, combine the cranberries, sugar, orange juice and zest, Grand Marnier and 1 cup water.
  • Bring the mixture to simmer and cook it until the cranberries burst and soften, about 15 minutes.
  • Remove the mixture from the heat and allow it to cool for 10 minutes.
  • Place a sieve over a bowl then pour the mixture through the sieve. Discard the solids then cover and refrigerate the syrup for a minimum of 2 hours and up to overnight.
  • When ready to serve, add 2 tablespoons cranberry syrup to a Champagne flute and top it with chilled champagne. Serve immediately.

Champagne, chilled, for serving
Frozen cranberries, for serving

Steps:

  • Bring the orange juice and cranberries to a boil in a large pot until the berries just begin to burst. Strain the juice through a fine mesh sieve and let cool to room temperature.
  • Pour 2 to 3 tablespoons of the juice into each of 4 flutes. Top with the champagne and garnish with frozen cranberries.

2 cups granulated sugar
1 cup cranberries, fresh, frozen
1 cup orange juice
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup ice cube
1/4 cup cranberries, frozen for floating in your cocktail

Steps:

  • Place all ingredients EXCEPT ice cubes in a medium sauce pan.
  • Bring to a boil, turn down the heat to med-high.
  • Cook for 2 minutes or until sugar is dissolved.
  • Remove from the heat and pour through a wire mesh strainer, pressing berries with the back of a spoon to release their juices.
  • Discard solids.
  • Stir in 1/2 C ice cubes to cool.
  • Freeze for 20 minutes to further cool.
  • Add 1 - 2 Tablespoons to your favorite sparkling wine. I love Prosecco.
  • Float a few frozen cranberries in the glass and watch them dance in the bubbles!
