Homemade Italian Marinara Sauce image

Italian Homemade Marinara Sauce is easy to make with lots of authentic flavor from using high quality canned tomatoes, red wine, and spices!

2-3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 large onion (finely diced)
4 cloves garlic (minced)
1/2 cup strong red wine (like chianti)
56 oz. canned crushed tomatoes
1/2 cup finely chopped herbs (parsley, basil, thyme, and/or oregano)
2 teaspoons kosher salt
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper (or to taste)

Steps:

  • Saute onions in olive oil on medium-high heat until browned and translucent, approx. 10 minutes.
  • Add minced garlic and saute for another minute.
  • Add wine, stir to life any browned onions/garlic from bottom of the pot, and simmer for a couple of minutes.
  • Add tomatoes, half of the herbs, salt, pepper, and crushed red pepper. Stir, and let simmer on low heat for 3 hours, stirring and tasting occasionally. Add seasoning as needed.
  • If sauce is looking too thin, leave lid ajar for a while.
  • During the last 10 minutes of cooking, add rest of the herbs.

1 tablespoon olive oil
6 cloves garlic, minced
2 pounds roma (plum) tomatoes, chopped
½ cup chopped fresh basil
8 ounces Brie cheese

Steps:

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, heat olive oil. Saute garlic, but do not allow to brown. Stir in tomatoes and half the basil. Reduce heat and simmer 45 minutes.
  • Stir in remaining basil. Remove the rind from the Brie and place in the pan. Allow the cheese to melt without stirring, then stir to combine and remove from heat. Serve sauce immediately.

1 can (14-1/2 ounces) Italian diced tomatoes, undrained
1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
1/2 to 1 cup water
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 tablespoons minced fresh parsley
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 pound uncooked shrimp (26-30 per pound), peeled and deveined
3/4 pound spaghetti, cooked and drained
Shredded Parmesan cheese, optional

Steps:

  • In a 3-qt. slow cooker, combine the first 9 ingredients. Cover and cook on low for 3-4 hours. , Stir in shrimp. Cover and cook on high 15-25 minutes, just until shrimp turn pink. Serve with spaghetti. Sprinkle with cheese if desired.

¾ cup vegetable oil
⅔ cup vinegar
2 teaspoons hot pepper sauce
3 teaspoons celery seed
1 teaspoon salt
2 large onions, chopped
1 ½ pounds cooked shrimp, peeled and deveined without tail

Steps:

  • In a large stainless steel or glass mixing bowl, combine the oil, vinegar, hot sauce, celery seed and salt. Mix thoroughly. Place the chopped onions and shrimp into the oil mixture. Toss to coat evenly. DO NOT use an aluminum mixing bowl! The high acid content in the vinegar could cause a reaction with the aluminum and poison the food.
  • Place the mixture in the refrigerator and chill over night.
