Buttery Seasoned Rice image

Recipe video above. Fluffy, seasoned, buttery rice that will elevate any meal! Homemade version of boxed rices like Rice-a-Roni and Uncle Bens. Economical way to make a really tasty rice side dish that will go with anything! Makes 6 cups cooked rice (fluffed), serves 6 - 8 as a side. Make a big batch, refrigerate 4 days or freeze 3 months!

2 cups long grain white rice (, uncooked (Note 1 for brown rice))
3 1/4 cups water ((cold tap water))
2 tsp chicken powder / granulated bouillon (, or 2 cubes dissolved in boiling water (Note 2))
1 tsp garlic powder (*)
1 tsp onion powder (*)
1 tsp paprika (*)
1/2 tsp dried thyme (*)
2 tbsp dried parsley (*, optional)
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
50g / 3 tbsp butter, unsalted ((or MORE!))

Steps:

  • Place all Rice ingredients in a large saucepan and give it a stir.
  • Bring to simmer over medium high heat (edges bubbling, entire surface rippling), put the lid on and turn stove down to medium low (LOW for strong stoves). It should be simmering gently.
  • Cook for 13 minutes - do not lift lid!
  • Tilt pot then QUICKLY peek to ensure all water is absorbed.
  • Remove from stove, stand 10 minutes with lid on.
  • Add butter and fluff rice with a rubber spatula. Serve!
  • Storage - please read Note 4.
  • Rice cooker - Same ingredients, water and rice ratio. Pop it all in your rice cooker and cook per manufacturer directions, stir through butter at end.

Seasoned White Rice-super easy recipe for adding tons of flavor to boring white rice using pantry ingredients.

1 c long grain rice (like jasmine)
1 3/4 c water
1 tbsp butter
1 tbsp olive oil
1 cube vegetable or chicken bouillon
salt+pepper (to taste)
parsley flakes (optional)

Steps:

  • Over medium heat, add butter, oil, and bouillon cube to a skillet or pan. Whisk to dissolve the cube then add the rice. Coat the rice with the oil mixture and add the water.
  • Bring to a bubbly boil then drop the heat to low. Allow the rice to absorb the water according to your rice package directions. You may use quick-cooking or standard rice.
  • Fluff the rice and season with a dash of salt and pepper if desired. Dried parsley flakes add a nice pop of color.

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 tablespoons canola oil
1 1/2 cups long grain white rice
1/4 medium onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
3 cups chicken stock
1 bay leaf
1 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • Warm oil in saucepan over med heat. When hot add rice and stir for about 10 minutes. Add onion and garlic, stir and cook about 1 minute.
  • Add broth, bay leaf and salt.
  • Bring to a boil, lower heat cover and let simmer for 15 mins until liquid is absorbed.
  • Take off burner and let sit another 10 minutes.
  • Rmove bay leaf and fluff with fork.

1 cup rice mix (above)

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients in a storage container with a tight-fitting lid. Yield: about 3-1/2 cups., To prepare rice as a side dish: Combine 2 cups water and 1 tablespoon butter in a saucepan; bring to a boil. Stir in one rounded cup of rice mix. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 15-20 minutes.
