1/2 cup cider vinegar
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 medium head red cabbage, shredded (10 cups)
2 bacon strips, diced
1 medium tart apple, peeled and chopped
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/4 cup water
2 tablespoons white wine vinegar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, stir the cider vinegar and sugars until sugars are dissolved. Add cabbage; toss to coat. Let stand for 5-10 minutes. Meanwhile, in a large skillet cook bacon over medium heat until crisp. Using a slotted spoon, remove to paper towels to drain. , In the drippings, saute apple and onion until tender. Stir in water and cabbage mixture. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 30-35 minutes. , Stir in the remaining ingredients. Simmer, uncovered, for 5 minutes or until tender. Sprinkle with reserved bacon just before serving.

5 thick bacon strips, cut into small pieces
1 large onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced, or more to taste
1 medium head cabbage, shredded or chopped
1 teaspoon paprika
1 pinch white sugar
salt to taste
ground black pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Cook bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crisp, about 5 minutes. Remove bacon and set aside. Add onion and garlic and cook in bacon grease until onion is soft and translucent, about 5 minutes. Stir in cabbage, paprika, sugar, salt, and pepper; mix to combine. Cook for about 10 minutes.
  • Stir cooked bacon into the skillet with the cabbage mixture. Simmer over low heat until cabbage reaches the desired consistency, 20 to 30 minutes. Serve hot or warm.

My husband loves cabbage and boiled or fried he likes both. It is so simple to fix it. They are so delicious and tasty. My kids loves them also.

1 head red cabbage, shredded
1 chopped onion
6 slice bacon, cooked and crumbled
2 Tbsp sugar
2 Tbsp cornstarch
1/2 c water
1/3 c vinegar
salt and pepper to taste

Steps:

  • 1. Cut and shred red cabbage. Cook bacon and put bacon on paper towel and set aside. Put drippings in a skillet and put the cabbage in a skillet and add water and bring to a boil and reduce to medium-low heat. Add sugar, cornstarch, vinegar, salt and pepper and stir well. Add bacon and crumbled in cabbage mixture and cook for 25 minutes until the cabbage is tender and thick.

1 large red onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
2 pounds red cabbage, shredded
3 tablespoons cider vinegar
2 teaspoons granulated sugar
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
2 large Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
3 to 4 slices bacon, cooked and diced
1/2 cup red wine, pinot noir or cabernet
1/2 cup beef stock, unsalted or low sodium
Optional: 2 teaspoons caraway seeds
Kosher salt, to taste

Steps:

  • Gather the ingredients.
  • In a large saucepan or Dutch oven , heat the oil over medium heat.

1/2 head cabbage (1/2 is plenty finely shredded)
1/2 cup water
1 chicken stock cube
1 teaspoon olive oil, for frying bacon (optional)
2 slices bacon
1 medium onion, slices finely
1 tablespoon butter
cracked black pepper
parsley, chopped (to garnish)

Steps:

  • In small frypan cook the bacon with or without oil till crisp.
  • Set aside to drain.
  • Use a deep frypan on heat and add the shredded cabbage and onion.
  • Add the water and keep on a medium heat.
  • Crumble the stock cube over and mix well.
  • Turn the cabbage over as it steams and cooks.
  • When the water has almost evaporated (you may need to add more, if the cabbage isn't cooked through) add the butter and pepper and reduce the heat to low.
  • Finely chop the bacon and stir through.
  • Garnish with parsley and black pepper.

1/2 head red cabbage, thinly sliced

Steps:

  • Cook bacon in heavy large skillet over medium-high heat until crisp, about 5 minutes. Transfer to paper towels using slotted spoon and drain. Pour off all but 2 tablespoons drippings from skillet. Add cabbage and sauté 3 minutes. Whisk 3 tablespoons vinegar, sugar and caraway in small bowl. Add to cabbage and sauté until cabbage is wilted but still crisp-tender, about 5 minutes more. Season generously with salt and pepper. Taste, adding more vinegar if desired. Mix bacon into cabbage. Transfer to bowl. Sprinkle with parsley and serve.

6 slices bacon, roughly chopped
1 tablespoon sugar
1 large yellow onion, finely chopped
kosher salt & freshly ground black pepper, to taste
1 large granny smith apple, peeled, cored, and coarsely chopped
1/3 cup port wine
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
1 large red cabbage, cored and finely shredded (about 3 lbs.)
2 cups chicken stock
1/4 cup red currant jelly

Steps:

  • Cook bacon in a large wide pot over medium-high heat until just crisp, about 5 minutes. Add sugar and cook, stirring constantly, for 30 seconds more. Add onions and salt and pepper and cook, stirring occasionally, until onions are golden and soft, about 10 minutes. Stir in apples, reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and cook until tender, 6-8 minutes.
