How to make Your Grandma's Beef Hekka Recipe

Provided by @MakeItYours

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 pound of stir-fry beef ("hekka cut")
1/2 cup of shoyu (sweet soy sauce)
2 tablespoons of sugar
1 clove of minced garlic
2-inch piece of peeled ginger sliced
1 medium sized Maui onion (julienne sliced)
10 green onions cut in 3/4 inch lengths
3 dried Shiitake mushrooms (soak in water, drain and slice)
1/4 cup of cut bamboo shoots (canned is ok)
1 can of yam threads/ Shirataki noodles (rinsed and drained)
1 tablespoon of Mirin Sake
Cooking oil (sesame is a nice choice here*)

Steps:

  • First, mix the shoyu, sugar, ginger, garlic, and Kirin sake in a bowl. Place the bowl to the side, this is your Beef Hekka sauce.
  • Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a frying pan (or a wok) on high. Reduce heat to medium, and stir-fry beef and Maui onions together. When the meat is 1/2 cooked, add in the bamboo shoots, yam threads, green onions, and mushrooms. Continue to stir-fry all the ingredients together, and slowly start to pour in your hekka sauce. Continue to stir all the ingredients together for a few minutes, and take the pan off the burner once all is heated. Serve over steamed calrose white rice and enjoy!!
