Traditional Amish White Bread image

If you're looking for a new bread recipe, try a classic one from the Amish. You can eat this homemade bread all day long.

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 cup Warm Water
⅔ cup white sugar
1½ Tbsp Active Dry Yeast
1½ tsp Salt
¼ cup Vegetable Oil
6 cups All-purpose Flour

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, mix sugar with warm water until dissolved. Add yeast. Mix salt and oil into the yeast. Work in flour. Knead dough on a lightly floured surface until smooth. Place in a well-oiled bowl, and turn dough to coat the entire surface. Cover with a damp cloth. Allow to rise until doubled in bulk, about 1 hour. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Punch dough down. Knead for a few minutes, and divide in half. Shape into loaves and place into two well-oiled 9-by-5-inch pans. Allow to rise for 30 minutes. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes.
