Texas-Style Sloppy Joes image

Sloppy Joes are a family favorite that is made even better when served over buttery Texas toast. Give this recipe a try the next time you need to make a quick dinner.

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 lb lean ground beef
1 can diced tomatoes
1 C ketchup
1/2 C barbeque sauce
1 T worcestershire sauce
2 t chopped jalapeno peppers
1/2 loaf Texas toast
1/2 C shredded cheddar cheese
1/4 C butter

Steps:

  • First, cook beef in a skillet over medium heat for eight minutes until brown. After beef is done cooking and is no longer pink, drain the liquid from the pan. Add canned tomatoes, ketchup, barbeque sauce, worcestershire sauce, and jalapeno peppers. Cover and let simmer for 10 minutes. Next, preheat the broiler to the lowest setting, Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and arrange the Texas toast in rows on the sheet. Brush the tops of the bread with butter and top with cheese. Broil the Texas toast in the oven for about five minutes, or until cheese has melted and the crust is crispy.Serve the Texas toast topped with the sloppy Joe mixture and extra cheese, if desired.
