Texas Sheet Cake image

Just another delicious sheet cake that my family loves! Plenty to share with friends and family! Enjoy!

2 c flour
2 c sugar
4 Tbsp heaping - unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 tsp salt
1 c butter
1 c boiling water
1/2 c buttermilk
2 large eggs, beaten
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla extract
FUDGE FROSTING
1/2 c plus 6 tablespoons butter
4 Tbsp heaping unsweetened cocoa
1 tsp vanilla
6 Tbsp milk
3 1/2 - 4 c confectioners sugar
1/2 c chopped walnuts ( optional )

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350 F For the cake: In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar and salt. Set aside Melt butter in a med saucepan & add cocoa. Stir mixture and add the boiling water. Boil for 30 seconds. Pour over flour mixture and stir until combined. In a 2 cup measuring cup, add buttermilk, eggs, baking soda and vanilla. Stir mixture then add to mixture above. Stir until well combined. Spread into a greased 13 x 18 sheet cake pan and bake 20 - 25 minutes depending on your oven or if using a different sized pan.
  • 2. Make icing: Melt butter in a med saucepan, whisk in cocoa, turn off heat add the milk, vanilla and confectioners sugar. Stir together until thoroughly combined. Stir in nuts if using. Pour icing over warm cake and spread evenly. Cool and enjoy or have a warm piece...both ways are deliciously moist!
