Sweet Chili image

This was given to me by my sister-in-law as a chili with a slightly sweet taste. It has beef broth and BBQ sauce as a base. It is a great pairing with my cornbread recipe.

2 lbs ground beef or 2 lbs ground turkey
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 green bell pepper, diced
1 red onion, diced
1 1/2 tablespoons chili powder
1 1/2 teaspoons cumin
1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried coriander
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 (16 ounce) can diced tomatoes, undrained
1 (16 ounce) can beef broth
1 tablespoon barbecue sauce
2 (16 ounce) cans beans (I do one pinto, one black(and I drained and rinsed them)
3 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lime juice
2 teaspoons honey

Steps:

  • 1. Combine beef, garlic, green pepper, and red onion and cook in skillet until meat is brown.
  • 2. Drain and add to crock pot.
  • 3. Add spices, tomatoes, broth, BBQ sauce, and beans to crockpot.
  • 4. Cook for 3-4 hours on high or 8 hours on low.
  • 5. A few minutes before serving mix in cilantro, honey and lime juice.
  • 6. Serve with sour cream and cheese, if desired.
