Sugar Cream Pie image

Growing up in Indiana everyone had their own version of sugar cream pie. My favorite is still from Mrs. Wicks. But my version is very good too! When I moved to New York I was surprised that no one knew what a sugar cream pie was!

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 1/2 c half and half
1 1/2 c sugar
1/3 c corn starch
1 stick salted butter, cut into chunks
2 tsp vanilla extract
2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp fresh grated nutmeg
1 prebaked pie crust

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 375°F. In a sauce pot whisk together the sugar and corn starch. Whisk in the half and half.
  • 2. Cook over medium heat whisking nonstop until it is bubbling and thickened. Remove from heat.
  • 3. Whisk in butter until melted and fully mixed in. Then stir in vanilla.
  • 4. Pour in to prebaked pie crust. Sprinkle cinnamon and nutmeg evenly over top.
  • 5. Bake in a preheated oven of 375° for 20 minutes. Remove from oven and cool to room temperature. Cover and place in fridge overnight. Enjoy!
