Slow-Simmered Spaghetti Meat Sauce image

Add something tangy to your family's Italian night! Serve this meaty spaghetti dinner drenched with sauce!

1 pound lean ground beef
1/2 pound bulk Italian pork sausage
2 medium carrots, finely chopped (1 cup)
1 medium green bell pepper, chopped (1 cup)
1 medium onion, chopped (1/2 cup)
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes, undrained
1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce
1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
1 tablespoon packed brown sugar
1 tablespoon dried Italian seasoning
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
16 ounces uncooked spaghetti
Shredded fresh Parmesan cheese, if desired

Steps:

  • Cook beef and sausage in 10-inch skillet over medium heat, stirring frequently, until beef is brown and sausage is no longer pink, about 8 minutes; drain.
  • Mix beef mixture and remaining ingredients except spaghetti and Parmesan cheese in 3 1/2- to 4-quart slow cooker.
  • Cover and cook on low heat setting 8 to 10 hours.
  • About 20 minutes before serving, cook and drain spaghetti as directed on package. Serve sauce with hot cooked spaghetti and Parmesan cheese.
