Slow-Cooked Spaghetti Sauce image

I've been making this for years...sometimes using ground beef, or italian sausage or the favorites in our house of ground venison or elk! (from a Quick Cooking recipe)

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 pound(s) ground beef or bulk italian sausage
1 - medium onion, chopped
2 can(s) 14 1/2 oz-each, diced tomatoes
1 can(s) 8 oz tomato sauce
1 can(s) 6 oz tomato paste
1 - bay leaf
1 tablespoon(s) packed brown sugar
4 - garlic cloves, minced
1-2 teaspoon(s) dried basil
1-2 teaspoon(s) dried oregano
1 teaspoon(s) salt
1/2-1 teaspoon(s) dried thyme

Steps:

  • In skillet, cook beef and onion over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain.
  • Transfer to a slow cooker. Add the remaining ingredients. Cover and cook on low for 7-8 hours or until well heated through.
  • Discard bay leaf and serve over hot, cooked spaghetti of your choice!
  • I often double the recipe!
