Steps:
- Sift flour, baking powder, and salt into large bowl. Rub shortening in hands until mixture develops a sandy texture. Make well in center; add sugar and buttermilk. Gradually add flour and mix lightly. Roll out dough 1 inch thick on lightly floured surface. Cut scones with 2-inch round cutter. Place on ungreased cookie sheet and let stand 15 min. Preheat oven to 450℉. Place a second baking sheet of same size under first to prevent bottoms of scones from burning. Bake in top of oven 10-15 min until tops are golden brown. Allow to cool slightly. Serve warm with butter.a
