SCOTCH BARS image

Yield 12 servings

Number Of Ingredients 11

2 cups flours
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 tablespoon soda
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup choppped nuts
2/3 cup shortening
2 cups brown sugar
2 tablespoons hot water
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
coconut (optional)

Steps:

  • Melt shortening in saucepan; Remove from heat. Add sugar to water and mix. Add dry ingredients and mix well. Add nuts and coconut (optional). Turn into greased cookie sheet (with sides) Sprinkle chips over the top. Bake at 350°F 15-20 minutes. Do not overbake. Cool in pan. Cut into bars.
