Salty Dog image

There are lots of variations of this drink, some use vodka and some use gin. Salty Dogs are a refreshingly tart and salty cocktail that are perfect for warm, sunny days. Historically, Salty Dogs were prepared without ice. But over time, it became more common to serve them chilled over ice cubes or crushed ice in a salt-rimmed...

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 1/2 oz gin (or vodka)
3 to 4 oz grapefruit juice
4 tsp coarse salt (for rim)
1 wedge fresh grapefruit (for garnish)
crushed ice

Steps:

  • 1. Run the grapefruit slice around the rim of an old-fashioned glass (or a rocks glass), to moisten the rim. Then dip rim of glass in coarse salt. Add crushed ice to glass, being careful not to shake any salt off the rim.
  • 2. Add gin (or vodka) and grapefruit juice to a cocktail shaker and shake vigorously for several seconds, then pour over ice into salt-rimmed glass.
  • 3. Garnish with grapefruit wedge, and serve immediately.
