Number Of Ingredients 8

1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
3 large apples, Granny Smith, peeled and sliced into uniform 1/8 inch slices
¼ cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
3 tablespoons butter, cold and cut into small cubes
1 egg
Flour
1 tablespoon lemon juice, fresh

Steps:

  • You'll need a dark cookie sheet measuring 10" x 15". Preheat oven to 375°. On a floured surface, roll out thawed puff pastry sheet (not unfolded) until its' dimensions are a bit larger than 10" x 15". Transfer to a piece of parchment paper cut to 10" wide and about 25" long. Place into cookie sheet and then into the freezer to set for 10-15 minutes. In a large bowl, toss apple slices with lemon juice, 1/8 cup sugar and cinnamon. Remove puff pastry from freezer. Brush edges and inside with egg wash (whisked egg and a bit of water). Carefully layer apple slices in an overlapping fashion, covering entire tart. Diagonally works well. Sprinkle evenly with remaining sugar and then distribute butter pieces evenly over tart. Place into middle rack of oven and bake for 30-35 minutes until apples are tender. Let sit for 10 minutes to cool, then using extra long edges of parchment paper, gently lift tart out and onto flat surface or plate, slide parchment paper out. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
