- To make Caramelized Simple Syrup, in 1-quart saucepan, place 1/4 cup brown sugar and 1 tablespoon of the water over medium heat. Cook, without stirring, 1 to 3 minutes or until sugar caramelizes. Carefully add remaining water; heat to boiling over high heat. Cook 30 to 60 seconds or until sugar dissolves. Transfer to heatproof storage container; cover and refrigerate until cold, at least 1 hour.
- To make Pumpkin Spice Sugar, in small bowl, mix 2 teaspoons brown sugar and the pumpkin pie spice.
- To make Old Fashioned, place the pumpkin spice sugar on a small plate. Wet the rim of a 10-oz old-fashioned glass. Dip the rim of the glass into the spice mixture. Fill glass with ice. Add bourbon, caramelized simple syrup and bitters; stir. Garnish with orange twist.
