PUFFY CHEESE BAKE image

Yield 4-6 people

Number Of Ingredients 10

4 slices of bread (I usually make my own Cheese & Onion bread); any kind of sliced bread will do
Softened butter
2 eggs
1 cup half & half (also works well with skim milk)
2 tbsp. butter, melted
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp dry mustard (optional)
1/4 tsp paprika
2-3 good shakes of cayenne pepper
1 1/2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar is best)

Steps:

  • Spread softened butter over bread slices. Cut each slice into triangles. Line sides of 8x8 baking dish with some of the triangles, creating a crown effect. Line the bottom with the remaining slices. Beat eggs slightly, mix in remaining ingredients. Pour over bread in baking dish. Cook uncovered at 350 for 40 minutes. Remove and let stand for 10 minutes.
