Poor man's Pudding Cake (Pouding Chomeur) image

A traditional French-Canadian recipe that is very common in Quebec. A syrupy "pudding" with a cakey topping. Very sweet. French: Pouding chômeur

Number Of Ingredients 13

CAKE
1 1/2 cup Flour
1 teaspoon Baking Powder
1/4 cup Margarine
2/3 cup Sugar
1 ea Egg
1 teaspoon Vanilla
1/2 cup milk
MAPLE SAUCE
1 cup Maple Sirop
1 cup Brown sugar
1 cup Water
1/4 cup Butter

Steps:

  • Pre-heat the oven at 325°F.
  • Sift together the flour and the Baking poweder. Put asside.
  • In a bowl, cream the butter or margarine; slowly add sugar until a smooth constitency.
  • Slowly add ¼ of the milk with the sugar with the egg and the vanilla. Repeat until all is mixed.
  • Using butter or margarine, grease the 9x13 baking dish. Pour in the doe in. Put asside.
  • In a pan, mix all the sauce ingredients and bring to a boiling state for a moment.
  • Pour the sauce on the doe. DO NOT mix.
  • Cook at 350°F for 45 minutes.
