Steps:
- Mix flour and salt in a large shallow bowl. Cut in shortening using a fork or pastry cutter, or even your fingers, until the mixture resembles coarse meal, with some larger bits the size of peas. Form the mix into a mound and make a well in the centre. Stir together cold water and egg in a small bowl and add to the middle of the mound, along with the vinegar. With a wooden spoon, mix just until the dough begins to clump together and most of the loose flour has been gathered up into the dough. Divide into five equal-sized balls, then flatten into disks.
