Picadillo (Cuban) image

This is a recipe I've enjoyed since childhood. Having a Cuban grandpa & Puerto Rican grandma, this was a staple in our house. It's a wonderful comfort food. (This is a web photo until I make some more and take a pic. I just want you to have an idea of what this is.)

Number Of Ingredients 11

3 Tbsp olive oil, extra virgin
1 small onion, diced
1 green bell pepper, diced
2 clove garlic, minced
1 1/2 lb ground beef
salt and pepper, to taste
8 oz tomato sauce
1 small can tomato paste
1/4 c white wine, dry
10 pimiento stuffed spanish olives, diced
1/2 tsp cumin

Steps:

  • 1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion, green pepper and garlic and saute until the onion is transluscent.
  • 2. Add ground beef, cooking until browned. Season with salt and pepper.
  • 3. Add remaining ingredients, stirring until well combined. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to medium-low. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes.
  • 4. Serve over white rice.
